Good concept, poorly executed.
Admirable film.
A Masterpiece!
The film may be flawed, but its message is not.
Here we go yet again, sharknado fighter Fin Shepard is in Washington, D.C. to receive a Presidential Medal of Freedom from the president, another sharknado strikes, devastating the nation's capital. Fin and the president work together to defeat the sharks, and the storm unexpectedly subsides. This time is mainly set at Universal Orlando, what I wasn't expecting was Twister...Ride It Out making a cameo which was a nice touch, sadly it was closed not too long after Sharknado 3 aired. The film has a bumpy pace mostly due to trying to squeeze in celebrity cameos. The story this time is about preventing various storms on the east coast from merging together and creating a "Sharkicane". Some of the characters are introduced just to be killed off as fast as they're introduced with the exception of David Hasselhoff. The kills and action are OK and humor is still there. The ending takes place in low earth orbit (which was completely insane) which begs the question of what is in store for the next installment that was quickly greenlit. The closing scene is just sequel bait (obviously since they already announced Sharknado 4) getting people to vote on the fate of Tara Reid's character by using a hashtag. It would have been an interesting twist to kill off a main character definitively in this movie. This movie is a signal that the Sharkando franchise has overstayed its welcome, the first 2 movies are OK, in short this movie has jumped the shark.
When I heard about the first "Sharknado" I thought, "Not really. That's got to be awful." It was...but in a fascinating, hilariously black comedy way. Now, 3 films later...I'm still watching, and still thinking the same thing. The title says it all. Eliminating the previous ones, this has to be the most ridiculous, absurd, improbable, and funny film currently making the rounds. It doesn't mess around with explanations or prefaces but immediately plunges into a rain of sharks being dropped on the White House just as Fin is receiving the "highest civilian award" from the president (as well as a golden chainsaw), and proceeds from there to destroy the entire Eastern Seaboard, ending in Universal City in Orlando, not exactly a nice thing to do to one of its distributors, but...fun, anyway.There...the entire plot in one sentence.Sharks in tornadoes aside, most of what happens is no doubt improbable if not impossible, but who cares? Set aside your disbelief and revel in watching celebrities (playing themselves) get chomped.
I canny believe they've done it, sharks in space. i cannot possibly comprehend the amount of effort gone into producing it. GRRM is the best actor I have ever seen. If you appreciate cinema as an art form, you will watch this film. Even the basic idea of sharks in space, and then going inside of said shark to get back to Earth, is a completely original idea of creative writing and should be praised for its competency. I am kind of running out of things to say about this film as it is so brilliant and I need to write 10 lines, so this is just a bit of filler to get me over the line. Please do carry on reading, as I can stall forever. Oh well, I've written 10 lines so I guess this is where the review ends. I put as much effort into this review as the writers and the director did for making this film. 10/10 ign.
This is a franchise that since it being brought up in the drawing room knew what it was going to be. It's like Sharktopus in the sense that it's deliberately trying to be a bad movie in the same vein as The Room or Troll 2 and while they haven't quite succeeded (in the sense that those movies work best when it's an accident) these movies can sometimes be a hoot. This movie isn't as funny, one of them is that this has celebrity cameos galore, while taking advantage of almost none of them. I admit having Jerry Springer eaten thinking it was Jaws at the universal studios theme park was good but Penn and Teller just enter and leave and I don't have a clue what they were trying with George R. R. Martin (and... He's in Sharknado? Of all the things!) there are many more. Oh and like the second one it amps things up to 11 but that is quickly shot down with... I guess, endearing moments, I seriously don't know whether it's satire or not but if it isn't... This is Sharknado, people! If there was anything in high demand from it's fan base it's not endearing moments. No, it's moments like the one where inside a shark in space Finn burns up on re-entry inside it's gut and survives both being inside the digestive system but re-entry. Give me more of that!... Oh and by the way since they're in space, you can say this franchise has in fact quite literally, jumped the shark!
