hyped garbage
a film so unique, intoxicating and bizarre that it not only demands another viewing, but is also forgivable as a satirical comedy where the jokes eventually take the back seat.
There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.
An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
I am in love with Ian Somerhalder, so my goal is to watch all of his films. I loved this movie! This film was full of action. I enjoyed the storyline. I actually didn't know if this movie was going to be any good, but I was pleasantly surprised.I liked that they used a priest and an assassin to form a relationship. They needed each other and it was perfect.Miles Slade, played by Ian, was a complete ASSassin. I didn't like his character because he was one of the worst ones! I really hated when he shot that poor innocent dog. It was unnecessary. But all in all, this movie was badass. :)
Like I've written above this film is nothing more than a dumb but fun action movie to watch. The movie has a decent enough plot to pack a lot of blood and gore within 90 mins and is good for a low budget action film. The plots quite simple which is why I wont explain it. But the movie has a decent cast for a straight to DVD flick, a lot of cool action scenes.Just don't think too much and you'll enjoy it. I picked it up for a dollar at a movie store that was closing down for that much its worth it. overall a good movie to watch when your bored on a Sunday afternoon or to watch with your friends. if you want a good story, acting, character development, watch something else.overall: 6/10
The film kinda get the reality shows essence, with a pinch of Predator script ("every seven years...") but with assassins as participants and very rich and influent people manipulating the situation. Not that original but, you know...Robert Carlyle and Ian Somerhalder are great in this movie and they are the highlight of acting on it. Robert pass us the humanity factor, being very convincing as always. What a such outstanding actor! I'm a huge fan of him. And Ian is really good as the mad man. He's really surprised me... The role of Ving Rhames was badly made, not appearing he is a great hit-man. It seemed something was missing... Well, thumbs down to the writers. Kelly Hu was so-so in her character but, I don't know, there are so many excellent Chinese actresses to play a role like that... Why her? Really good acting too of Liam Cunningham. His voice looks like those trailer movies' narrators and his presence was strong. One more time, Scott Adkins was underused in a film... When, when, when someone is going to give him a proper attention? He deserves it! His fight with Kelly is great, the best of the movie, but due to laziness (or whatever happened) of writers, he's like a Yuri Boyka's clone, as a Russian assassin... Anyone there remembered a certain Isaac Florentine's movies? Sebastien Foucan, although was good playing a parkour guy (again), they let him with more participation... What a sin! Another thing that made me really admired was the special effects of explosions, mainly body explosions! They surpassed themselves on that! Excellent indeed. The blood effects are awesome too. While not a blockbuster, I recommend "The Tournament" without hesitate. It is definitely a much better choice than many of so called "action movies" out there. With more money, and perhaps time, to writers, it would be an enormous hit.
I was looking forward to this film, since it sounded like an interesting idea.Just a few minutes into the film you see that it's the same set-up as Battle Royale. And quite frankly, lot's of things seem to be taken directly from that film. I know the concept isn't new, but I really hoped that this film would do something unique for it self. Instead, it's Battle Royale, with adults. And the premise that they are assassins. Unfortunately I don't really see that. There is only one person that seem to actually be an assassin, perhaps two but we don't get to see much of it. Instead we see supposed "assasins" who can't hit the good guy with a weapon from five meters away. It's more like watching an early Bond film. The only good part is the fact that every head shot looks real. Other than that the film is predictable at every turn and the characters are almost one dimensional.
