This is one of the most powerful horror films of the last decade. Gifted director Lowell Dean has brought a creative vision to this work that's electric in its intensity. With an inspired screenplay by Christian Piers Betley, it is an original, fresh look at a genre which too often utilizes zombie like creatures simply due to lack of ideas. In this thrilling film, the threat of being slaughtered by flesh craving monsters is given new energy and becomes something entirely different than anything before. The suspense and terror are incredible and at times overwhelming. Unrelenting in its horror, this is a motion picture meant for audiences tolerant of graphic, stomach churning imagery. Some of the scenes are unholy in their nature and are undeniably haunting. Director Dean is certainly a talent to be reckoned with and a creative force bound to for cinematic greatness.

I don't use to write reviews, but when I do it is to advise people from horrible movies.It was okay, until the "zombies" appeared, there all went downhill... It was just so terrible done, I was just bored instead of frightened. Maybe the movie would be fun to laugh at if you watch it with friends, but alone, the movie just managed to be annoying and boring.The acting was alright I guess, well until they faced the "zombies".Save yourself, this movie it is horribly done, maybe that's why it got in the category "horror".ha

Cons: They followed "The Formula" of zombie movies. Its a by-the-numbers zombie flick, that's about the only con I had with the movie. Yup, we've seen it all before. Pros: The make up effects were great, high marks for slime. Very high on the "gore count". Although not intentionally a comedy there was some pretty humorous reactions.As the plot line goes, all the complications in the lives of people being chased by killer zombies were made in this movie like wasting bullets with torso shots, denial by the authority figure even when there are multiple incidents of something going really wrong, wrecking the only transportation you have, ignoring the screams of comrades with the "Did you hear something?" line and then not investigating as your buddies are transformed into an all you can eat buffet. Nothing was missed. Loved the reaction of Larry, the ex-con/driver who had the best line in the movie "We stand a better chance if we just roll outta here and call in an airstrike". Better than classic!The only thing that really didn't make sense from the writer/editors is if access was made with a gated road, why did the students go to the island (actually a peninsula in this case) on a small rubber zodiac and have to walk some 10 minutes to the camp. It had nothing to do with the plot line of the movie. Wouldn't it been easier to just drive in as everyone else did? Also, you could have saved the cost of the zodiac.In any case, if you're a fan of zombie movies you pretty much know what's going to happen, this one is no different, but the running, the screaming, the dying were all quite entertaining. Its worth a look.

Six forensic undergrad students agree to a competition that could land one of them in a training position with the FBI. They arrive on a remote island and are suppose to find planted bodies and collect evidence. Unfortunately for them this site was used as a biological testing ground on life-term prisoners. These burnt looking cadavers are among them and very much alive with revenge in mind. The relentless ex-inmates attack and devour a few students in gruesome fashion and they soon come back to life as the undead. What you have in this Canadian production is a semi-clever twist on the Zombie attack film. The isolation is there and the victims are made to fight for their lives. The good news is, Director Lowell Dean builds suspense well and delivers with some inspired and at times gory deaths. Katharine Isabelle is solid in the lead role and some great looking zombies deliver the goods. Fast paced and never boring, 13 Eerie will manage a few good scares and solid Zombie action and mayhem.
