You won't be disappointed!
Good movie but grossly overrated
It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.
This is a gorgeous movie made by a gorgeous spirit.
I'm not connected or affiliated to this movie in any way so a completely unbiased review here. Didn't really know what to expect with it but aside from a feeling of a b-rated execution, the story had substance and merit with a decent somewhat predictable plot. The dialogue was decent, not great. The directing might have been the weakest part of the film by not getting the most from the scenes and some rough acting from some of the supporting cast but the mains were good. Overall it had some very solid morales and comes across pretty authentic in its story and the hardships of coming back from prison. If you can look past the B-rated execution, it's a solid movie that deserves props for telling the story right.
Sports movies are hard to make, if just because the filmmaker has to stay within the traditional structures of a picture while incorporating exciting sports sequences that do not appear contrived or rehearsedThose looking for a combination of fast breaking basketball sequences and slam dunk music video highlights will not find what they want in this film. While the movie does include a few basketball scenes, it focuses more on the human story of choice, responsibility, societal pressures, and heroism.Basketball, a sport traditionally dominated by Afro-Americans, offers the ideal symbol for the filmmaker's thought provoking critique of the flawed Afro-American Dream. The script is well-written and the direction strong.
I don't really know how to rate this movie. The movie was pretty good. The slam-dunking was excellent. The story was sad and happy - i was laughing and crying. The ending was messed up with the bad guy getting away with taking his girlfriend. Part of the movie is a 10. Then you have to take away a point for the OK acting. Okay, I'll give it an 9......
This was and is truly one of the most outstanding basketball movies of all time. I would urge anyone, anyone at all, regardless of their background relating to sports, to sit back and watch this movie, and to try to see it, feel it, through the eyes of the protagonists. It is unforgettable.
