Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.

Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.

Barfi! is a 2012 Indian romantic comedy-drama film directed, written and co-produced by Anurag Basu. Set in the 1970s, the film depicts the story of Murphy "Barfi" Johnson (a mute and deaf man from Darjeeling) and his relationship with two women, Shruti and Jhilmil (who is autistic). The film stars Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, and Ileana D'Cruz in the lead roles, with Saurabh Shukla, Ashish Vidyarthi, and Roopa Ganguly in supporting roles.His parents named him Murphy, but everyone calls him Barfi! Always ready with a prank up his sleeve, he's quite the charmer, especially with the ladies! In Darjeeling, Barfi (Ranbir Kapoor) is the talk of the town. Even though he can neither speak nor listen! OKAY,this is enough!!!It's a shitty copy of many foreign films(the notebook and other Hungarian movies).Ask me if there is any scenes of its own!! A BIG SCAR ON Indian CINEMA!!!THEY COPY EVERYTHING FROM TOP TO BOTTOM!! the simple reason why Indian movies are trash is-- NO CREATIVITY. yes, we stick to only one major genre--TYPICAL BOLLYWOOD ROMANCE. guys come on!! get some story of your own!!We produce more annual films than others but still lack the true nature. we have become hopeless here. The only reason why bollywood has got some name of it's own is-Few actors going west!!!STUPID Indian DIRECTORS AND PRODUCERS!!! They make themselves look like DUPLICATES!!! And same goes for the idiots audience who praise them for their stupidity and ask for Oscars NOMINATIONS!!!! go get a life Indian cinema!! The only creative Indian cinema all rounder we have is- FARHAN AKHTAR and ZOYA!!Their creation is out of reach of Indian mindswhat India loves is flying cars and stupid actors and actress dancing in gutters with shitty actions. This movie blew me away with the simple, straightforward and true-to-life depiction of individuals who are mentally a little--- well--- different, from the rest. Ranbir Kapoor plays Barfi, a deaf, mute and clumsy individual, who nonetheless is highly expressive, articulate and creative by means of gestures and actions. He struggles to win the affection of the lady of his dreams, though his advances are rebuffed, and soon he finds his life inexorably tangled with that of an autistic girl named Jhilmil(Priyanka Chopra). This is the first Priyanka Chopra movie that I have seen, and I instantly fell in love with her. You do not see an ounce of the glamor, sex appeal and charisma associated with a beauty queen, just a plain, mentally challenged, autistic individual who is limited in her ability to emote and express, and yet touches your heart so profoundly that you will have tears in your eyes by the end. How these two unusual characters come together and hit it off is the stuff this movie is made off. Very entertaining, touching and poignant movie! I can relate completely to it since I am a teacher, and deal with many children/adults who are extremely intelligent and creative, yet suffer from relationship and social problems because they are wired differently and express their emotions in unusual ways. Do watch it!!
