Curse of the Pink Panther
Inspector Clouseau disappears, and the Surete wants the world's second best detective to look for him. However, Clouseau's enemy, Dreyfus, rigs the Surete's computer to select, instead, the world's WORST detective, NYPD Sgt. Clifton Sleigh. Sleigh obtusely bungles his way past assassins and corrupt officials as though he were Clouseau's American cousin.

Excellent but underrated film
There are better movies of two hours length. I loved the actress'performance.
I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.
There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.
The unexpected death of Peter Sellers put the wildly popular Pink Panther series into production limbo, but producer Blake Edwards tried to re-start things with this entry. Ted Wass is introduced as a new bumbling detective, this time from New York, now on the trail of the missing Clouseau. Various factions each have their own reasons for wanting him to fail in his search and send their top agent to thwart him. Most of the movie is taken up by Wass' bungling misadventures as he runs afoul of one agent after another. Some of these clashes result in entertaining moments, but after a while it all gets pretty episodic and rambling. Moreover the approach seems very sloppy and throwaway, as if 'take one' was used for every scene. The tight direction and sharp comic timing that characterized the early Sellers movies are largely absent, as are the expected elaborately staged, extended comedy-stunt ballets that also figured prominently earlier in the series. Perhaps the budget on this one was lower than usual and the producers tried to hide this by not getting too ambitious at any point. Fans of the series are sure to be disappointed.
Curse of the Pink Panther is not the worst of the series for me, Trail and Son are much worse being shameless messes. Curse is mediocre but it does have some good things.Pros: The film does look decent, the title sequence is fun, the music is wonderful, Ted Wass is good comedic value, Roger Moore's cameo is another bright spot and the part where Wass sits on the giant duck is hilarious. Herbert Lom is entertaining as Dreyfuss and Joanna Lumley doesn't grate like she did in Trail of the Pink Panther.Cons: The story is very standard, slow moving and predictable, and the film is overlong. The script is fairly weak too and some of the gags and jokes don't work as well as they should have done. Sadly this was David Niven's last film, and he deserved a better swan-song, he is a good actor but he looks uninterested and bored.Overall, mediocre but has a few good things to make it watchable. 5/10 Bethany Cox
After the cut and paste film that was "Trail of The Pink Panther" Blake Edwards tries to create an American version of Clouseau in Clifton Sleigh and have him set out on a mission to find Inspector Clouseau while in the process questioning characters from the other (successful) Pink Panther films. While David Niven and Robert Wagner may be the big names it is the unknown Ted Wass who plays the lead and it is he who has to sell this at times painfully unfunny comedy to the audience. He tries hard but he just cannot replicate the talent of Peter Sellers. The plot feels stretched and the film feels very long which a comedy shouldn't. It's nice to see some of the previous stars of these films but even they aren't enough to save this film that strangely seems to be becoming a favourite with Panther fans after all these years.Blake Edwards would admit defeat after the poor reception this film was given but should really have known better than to milk the franchise for all its worth after Sellers died.
With "Trail of the Pink Panther", they portrayed Insp. Clouseau disappearing, and this time, they have a clumsy American detective (Ted Wass) look for him. Personally, I wish that they could have ended the series with "Revenge of...". After that, they butchered Peter Sellers's scenes, then replaced him, then replaced him again (Roberto Benigni probably wishes to downplay his role in "Son of..."). So, "Curse of the Pink Panther" might work once, but not after that. Just stick with the original movies. You'll be a much better person for sticking with the original movies.Did anything ever become of Ted Wass?
