A lot of perfectly good film show their cards early, establish a unique premise and let the audience explore a topic at a leisurely pace, without much in terms of surprise. this film is not one of those films.

AMERICAN WARSHIPS another of the numerous Asylum rip-offs of mainstream Hollywood cinema; this time around it's the turn of BATTLESHIP. The good news is that BATTLESHIP was a terrible film anyway, so AMERICAN WARSHIPS couldn't be any worse, and indeed it isn't; instead, it's just as bad. The story is trite and predictable, with a naval stand-off between American and supposed North Korean ships turning into a battle against an extraterrestrial enemy. There's a great deal of bad CGI in the form of endless explosions and the like, and very little in the way of wit or plot development; just repetition instead. Poor old Carl Weathers has been roped into appearing, while Mario Van Peebles somehow manages to not look embarrassed by the whole experience.

I see a lot of comments of people saying not to watch this movie. I would have to disagree with them. I actually recommend this movie to "movie buffs", and people who love movies. Why, you ask? Well, yes it is a horrible, horrible movie. However, movies are designed to entertain for the most part. I will admit, that this movie is surprisingly void of boring scenes that make us wonder, "When will this movie finally be over?!". That is the only reason I even gave it 2 stars. Otherwise, this movie is absolute trash, but somehow, it kept me entertained. A lot of the acting is terrible. The wardrobes are especially HORRIBLE.. and I mean HORRIBLE! Aside from the traditional brown military uniforms for ranked officers, the uniforms for the crew are so terrible, that I would liken them to props used in a middle school play. They were wearing plain old blue baseball hats and plain red and blue sweaters and shirts that look like they just came off a Wal-Mart shelf. They still have the wrinkles in them that clothes have when they have been sitting on a shelf for sale before they are washed. They didn't even take the time to attempt to make their clothing look used in the very least. The props are also horrible. Not a single prop looks like military grade at all. The visual effects and audio are some of the worst I have ever seen. The continuity is horrible. The men playing the Navy seamen look about as far away as being a Navy seamen as possible.. and especially the "SEALS". They were either little skinny guys or overweight. The hair of some of the male actors was too long and would not even be within military guidelines. This movie looks like it was produced and directed by people that lacked even the basic knowledge of the military. Like I said, this movie is HORRIBLE, but SO HORRIBLE that I believe it would actually entertain a movie buff for that reason!

I usually don't write reviews or comments, but this movie is so so pathetic that I created an account here just to say how bad this movie is to let out my frustrations. Its actually not a movie, its a cartoon made by some retarded clowns. We need to rather invent a new word in English vocabulary which should mean '100 times pathetic or disgustingly pathetic or pathetically pathetic' than that word would be suitable for this movie. Whoever has watched this movie for at least 20 min has become a 'victim' of this movie and must go to see any psychiatric to calm oneself down. I happen to see this movie on Netflix, but god bless those people who actually watched this movie on theaters. And moreover, despite the fact that they made the pathticest movie possible in mankind, they also showed intent for second part in the end by saying 'aliens might have sent distress signal'. ** Please do yourself a favor and do not watch this movie. **

I have just one question: who cast David Polinsky as "Admiral Hollis"? Just Google him and you will see he is a Star Trek fan - his Twitter account shows he is following three of the old Star Trek cast. So how did this non-actor get into this film? Did money money change hands? (Not to him, but from him).Back to his acting ability - non-existent. As the top man in a fight to decide the fate of the world, he has a permanent grin on his face while delivering his high-pitched sombre words. It truly is the most laughable piece of miscasting ever.So how do "The Asylum" get away with it? How do they make any money from these garbage films with crappy actors, bad plots, pathetic scripts and laughable CGI? It's simple: they get idiots like you and me to think that it can't really be as bad as all the reviewers say it is, and surely TV channels like SyFy wouldn't be publicising it so heavily if it wasn't any good, unless the SyFy channel is financially linked to The Asylum.Thank God Universal filed a lawsuit against The Asylum. It's about time someone stopped this rip-off company.
