Good story, Not enough for a whole film
Boring
I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.
The film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.
No idea why this movie is rated so low...the dance battles are great and its a classic street dance movie that paved the way for much bigger movies like Step Up. If you are in your mid 20's and have no rhythm and listen to country music, this movie isn't for you. Just search up You Got Served dance battles on YouTube and you will see its mostly positive reviews by young adults/teens who know this movie is fun.
You Got Served is the epitome of watching someone scrape there nails on a chalkboard for 90 or minutes or so, that's how bad this felt. I expected the horrible acting, the typical "in the hood" talk, but I at least expected to be somewhat enthralled with some of the dance sequences, I got none of it. The characters are grating as well, I had trouble relating to any of them to be honest, while I had to listen to a pretty annoying soundtrack.Bottom line. I got served alright, served with horrible acting, terrible screenplay, and an awful movie. Avoid, only recommend to die-hard dance fans, and even that's pushing it.1/10
I think a lot of the people who commented on this movie before me were way too harsh. This is a teenage dance movie. If your not a teenager or into dance your not gonna get into it. Granted SOME of the script wasn't that great but I thought the basic heart of the story was good. I really don't get why all you people go out of your way to pick a movie apart. This is not some boring life affirming drama, this movie is for fun! So take it like that enjoy the fairy tale where everything works out and get a life.Another thing, you have got to be kidding me with all the comments about bad acting, they were not that bad! The only time I found them bad was when the script made them say stupid crap. Oh and about them acting all "thug" like, are you serious?! Do you people even know any teenagers? ANY? Black white whatever? That is how they talk! Its not exaggerated!
Although the story might not have played out as well as it might have, the dance moves alone make this film an interesting watch. The actors might not be the most experienced actors but the story is not hard to follow and the break dancing is wild. My family enjoy watching dance movies and would rate the level of difficulty, right up there. I am a film maker myself and feel that the people that made this film did okay. The cinematography during the dancing sequences is sound and the energy of the film is good. I have seen a number of films from the larger studios with far bigger budgets then this film that have made a complete hash of things. These film makers will be better for the experience and I look forward to their next effort. The story could have done with some work but overall a reasonable effort.
