Good concept, poorly executed.
It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional
This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
Death Wish 4: the crackdown (1987) is my personal favourite of the action packed fun Death Wish franchise!!! I won't go on about the plot or story as it's basic action Thriller 80s fun but i will talk about this Easily being the best of the series!!! BRONSON is at his best here as Vigilante Paul Kersey (my favourite film character ever) he's like the original Punisher in his Hunt & crackdown of gangsters & his portrayal is absolutely best here in part 4, Paul Kersey has become a kind of MYTHICAL avenger almost supernatural & scary to criminals as seen in the excellent opening Nightmare scene!!! A GREAT way to reintroduce the Vigilante in an almost Horror fashion that works perfectly & gives us the MOST iconic version of Paul Kersey & of BRONSON himself, like i said the opening gives us AWESOME scenes of Kersey stood in half in shadow in a long leather coat & introduces himself as DEATH!!! just perfect & cemented his status as a scary Vigilante. Part 4 is also the best directed out of the entire franchise & it shows all the way through & again is better for it & someone actually knowing what to do with the Awesome Paul Kersey character & actually making him intimidating & at the same time very cool & iconic. Yep the best filmof the series & the best version of mr. Vigilante & the best directed & has the best opening scene of the lot & a really nice 80s jazzy music score that fits perfectly with this less gritty & grimy but more cleaner Action packed Thriller that's pure entertainment from that CLASSIC opening to the Awesome kick ass ending!!! Perfect Bronson perfect Kersey, my favourite BRONSON film
Once again, Charles Bronson plays architect-turned-vigilante Paul Kersey in this fourth film in the 'Death Wish' franchise. Often cited as the weakest entry in the series, 'Death Wish 4' suffers from leaden dialogue (especially when Kersey is consoling his grief-stricken girlfriend) and limited character progression. On the plus side though, the film has a fresh and original plot with a nod towards 'Yojimbo' as Kersey is hired play off rival drug cartels against one another, leading each to believing that the other is trying to sabotage their business. Kersey has some pretty nifty weapons this time too, including an incendiary device in a wine bottle, and with the experienced J. Lee Thompson at the helm, it is a slick-looking production. The opening scene is especially remarkable with clever use of fish-eye lensing and deliberately edited cutaways (in which hoodlums appear and disappear) drumming up incredible tension. There is also well edited sequence later on in which Kersey's gun-fighting gets redirected to a local ice rink, and the open ending is pitch perfect. The plot is arguably a bit too intricate for its own good with a twist in the final third that does not necessarily add a lot to the film, though it does tie in well with the idea of Kersey being used as a pawn to dirty work that could not otherwise be done (an angle sort of explored in 'Death Wish 3' with Ed Lauter's corrupt cop). This might well be a lot different to the thought-provoking original 1974 movie, but as far as sequels go, 'Death Wish 4' is very decent of its type.
Here's a far different Death Wish, to the former three. Yes, crack has claimed the life of another person, Bronson's close to, that being the daughter (Vacation's Barron) of his new girlfriend (Lenz). So Charlie goes undercover to bust the bastards, after being enlisted by a guy (John P Ryan) who lost his son to crack. Of course, much more realistic to bubblegum pic, number 3 (my favorite) this entry, sees a wearied Bronson, doing what he does best, playing Mr Cliché tough guy, where the movie really goes into the drug problem, but more so just has Charlie, kicking arse. He masquerades as a bartender to a playboy drug kingpin, who became his cop partner, in J Lee Thompson's next flick, Kinjite, where later Charlie is played for a sucker. Just watching the party scene, we can patently see, Charlie would rather be somewhere else, but if you're a desperate or more so is the case here, typecast actor, you have to take what you can get. Too this Death Wish has a nice twist near the end, I liked, something you never would of expected in this, though this film is far from the superior original. I think with watching this forth one, here's a good time for Charlie to hang up his boots and be done with this franchise, in what is an interesting and not badly made pic. Sadly it wasn't, with the desperate and final entry six years later, the sickest Death Wish yet. Death wish fans will still be content here, especially when Charlie brings out the big guns, reprising his role, as Mr Vigilante Paul Kersey, one of his greatest acting performances, ever.
It's another sequel that destroys what was accomplished by the first movie . There is nothing memorable here . It's dull . It has weak acting. It's badly directed , which is surprising since J. Lee Thompson ("Cape fear") is the director . Charles Bronson is just too old to play convincingly in action movie anymore . "The Death wish 4" is also so stupid at places that it even isn't funny. The second one at least had some violence . The third one at least wasn't boring . Here ? Here is nothing . Cheap , cheap at every level . Boredom from beginning to the end. The movie tries to impress viewer with some twists near the end , but they are too obvious to work.I give it 1/10.Watch out for Danny Trejo ("Desperado") in a small role of Zacharias gang member.
