Tank 432

With nowhere else to hide, a group of mercenaries and their prisoners take cover inside a long abandoned Bulldog tank. But, while they try to keep the forces outside at bay, the real enemy is already among them, locked inside the 'Belly of the Bulldog'. After collaborating closely with Ben Wheatley on FREE FIRE, HIGH-RISE, A FIELD IN ENGLAND and KILL LIST, director Nick Gillespie makes his feature debut.

This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.

TANK 432 is one of those low budget British horror flicks with little explanation or reason behind it. The story opens in the middle of action as a squad of soldiers are pursued (in the present day) by enemies unknown. Through various stupidities of the story, they take prisoners and hole up inside a tank (actually a large personnel carrier) before finding themselves trapped inside. The amateurish script really lets the movie down, offering across the board unpleasant characters, some quality actors (Rupert Evans, Michael Smiley) unable to do anything with their one-dimensional roles, and dialogue which merely consists of characters repeatedly shouting "what the f is going on?" over and over again. The horrors are left unseen and there are a few violent moments, but nothing that qualifies this as a proper horror movie; just an exercise in tedium, much like A FIELD IN ENGLAND with which this has a few similarities (perhaps A TANK IN A FIELD IN ENGLAND would be a better description). After seeing him in this, THE GHOUL, and PREVENGE, I'm beginning to think that the presence of Tom Meeten in the cast is the kiss of death for any movie.

StoryLine: one test soldier is going being to be tested for the effects of krakos similar to the drug in jacobs ladder film Which is distributed around the test site with differing degrees of strength, 1 member or the test subject has had his memory wiped the rest were given code names the rest believed they were outside the test and was given periodically by the medic the antidote under the pretense of pain management. Unwittingly by the test subject the group entered a battlefield simulation. The groups job was to coerce the subject towards the tank number 432, 431 is the amount of simulations and test subjects that have already performed up to date and this is tank 432. on their way, they perchance to come across the last group before they could be cleaned. they died in a locked and contained building whilst ingesting krakos. The cover was kept from the test subject by the group pretending that they knew them. They eventually get to the tank and entered. There was a pretense that the door was locked to keep the subject inside for maximum and heightened experience from ingesting krakos after a few days of being locked inside the subject did not die as suspected. So the improvements being made to Krakos was being improved. Now the rest of the group realize that they are also part of the trial because they found the trial subject folders in the tank and there names were in there at which they all went from calm to panic mode.

I decided to give this movie a look since the description of it promised that it would be akin to something like the movie "Dog Soldiers", which was also made by British filmmakers. However, it did not take me long into watching it to make me wish that I rewatched "Dog Soldiers" instead. This is a really BAD movie. For one thing, the movie throughout refuses to give the viewers anywhere near a decent explanation as to what is going on with multiple plot points and the various characters. Sure, I can accept a little mystery, but not to the point where I don't even get the gist of what is going on. To make matters worse, the movie is really uninteresting. Most of the movie takes place in the title place, where the people inside constantly bicker and yell and go nowhere when it comes to trying to uncover what is happening. It doesn't help that the cast often speak in such thick accents that it's hard at times to figure out what they are saying. This movie is a pretentious mess, making you feel stupid while you are watching it for more than one reason.

I'm not some cinema snob who enjoys pontificating over this or that nugget of art in a film. I'm just a guy who enjoys a decently entertaining movie. "Tank 432" was absolutely *not* a decently entertaining movie. Not just a somewhat poor plot, but no real plot at all. Unless "run and hide" qualifies as a plot. Curious; can you have a "plot spoiler" in a review when the movie has no plot? Or the "plot" was spoiled by the person who wrote the screenplay? >>Warning: the following gives a detailed description of the nuances of the plot. Read at your own risk. In fact, watch the movie at your own risk.<<Two-dimensional characters run over hill and dale in the English countryside, cursing and screaming and shooting. From where to where? From someone or something? Who knows? Then we have some hiding, with yet more cursing and screaming and arguing and shooting, and... whatever. It was a confused, hot mess from start to finish. I stuck with it only to see if it would *finally* pull together and make sense at the end, or have a twist like some M. Night Shyamalan wannabe movie. No such luck.If you have guests that are overstaying their welcome, fire this up on Netflix. They will soon make excuses why they have to leave. Guaranteed.
