The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.

I read a lot of negative comments about this movie and I wonder why? Because honestly I was entertained during the whole movie. It changes from the usual Italian or Irish gangster stuff. This time it's about the Chinese Mafia with different gangs trying to recruit new members from the illegal immigrants circuit. The story is about two young friends that are made gangsters and you can follow their life when they are grown up. The fact that Martin Scorsese produced this movie also tells you that the story won't be bad otherwise he would not be interested in producing this. Seeing how New Yorks Chinatown took over like almost the whole Little Italy streets tells you also something about that you shouldn't mess with the Chinese triads. Glad they made a movie about those gangs instead of the usual Mafiosi stuff.

Despite Martin Scorsese being the executive producer and Ray Liotta having a role, "Revenge of the Green Dragons" doesn't seem to have received much of a theatrical release (if any) in North America. It doesn't take long to figure out why - the movie simply isn't very good. I'm not saying there isn't any merit to be found. Some of the acting by the largely no-name cast is fine, and directors Wai-Keung Lau and Andrew Loo do manage to inject a little stylishness despite their low budget. But for the most part, the movie's low budget does show, particularly with the extremely tight direction - I almost suffered from a case of claustrophobia with everything so closely filmed. But the movie also suffers script problems. None of the characters are fleshed out enough to give us a good idea as to their backgrounds or what they are thinking or feeling. I simply didn't care one way or another about these guys. As a result, the movie becomes extremely tiresome very quickly, and you'll be impatiently waiting for it to come to its end.

Two brothers Sonny and Steven, survive the impoverished despair of New York in the 1980s by joining Chinatown gang "The Green Dragons". The brothers quickly rise up the ranks, drawing the unwanted attention of hard-boiled city cops. After an affair puts Sonny against his own brother, he sets out for revenge on the very gang who made him who he is.....It's another case do great name above an absolute shambles of a film, and if you know what an executive producer does, you will instantly think less of this 'film'.I mean come on, every actor, writer, and director at one point has, or will executive produce something, you just have to show up, tell an actor to stand somewhere other than where they are, take a huge cheque for your name to be used, and then toddle off.No disrespect to Scorcese, the guy is a certified genius, and I'm sure he did more than the above mentioned, but after seeing this, I highly doubt it.It starts off okay, a little like Gangs Of New York (and then Scorcese left the building), but it soon veers into absurdity, and seeing as this is only ninety minutes long, it seemed a lot longer than Gangs of.....Brothers stick together, argue, fight, and a little more, Ray Liotta pops up for a while looking very, very ill, like he did in Goodfellas (then Scorcese put the phone down), and then there's a stupid twist come the end, and it finishes. It looks okay though, but the flashes of admitted genius, just vex the viewer that little bit more.Really soulless stuff....l

this film has made me wonder if the director from Hongkong is a real Chinese or worse yet, did this guy really know anything about the Chinese immigrants and those who came to America in the 1980s? the screenplay of this film is a absurd practical joke played on the Chinese immigrants, it's like George Bush Sr. amazed at the bar-code scanner when he found out at the first time, a device already existed and used in the supermarkets for years. i really don't know how this screenplay would have approved by the production company and its producers/investors of this film. the storyline was so outlandish and absurd that so many legal Chinese immigrant would rush into the customs like Irish refugees who came to America in the early 20th century. none of the Chinese characters appeared in this stupid film looked like legit typical Chinese, guys worked in the kitchen spoke Taiwanese intonation Chinese mandarin, bunch of elder Chinese young gang-bangers chasing two youngsters who escaped into the back kitchen of a Chinese restaurant, a woman gangster mamma-san enslaved all the newcomers. the screenplay was just so weird, so absurd and so formulaic out of touch. a messy patch-up work done by some moron who not only didn't know anything about the Chinese immigrants but also didn't know anything about the Chinese gangster tong culture and its history. the screenplay was like a homework by a high school American Chinese, his only knowledge of the Chinese was from some comic books, like FuManchu or Charlie Chen crap. there's nothing right and the cast so poorly assigned. some viewers still tried so hard to match this film with those often mentioned better films and certain master-level director, well, listen, okay, save it, dude, don't try to fool yourself. this is one of the worst films ever made since moving pictures were invented, period.
