So much average
Absolutely amazing
A Masterpiece!
The movie is surprisingly subdued in its pacing, its characterizations, and its go-for-broke sensibilities.
Sam Fuller manages to put a little bit of everything into this neo-noir. It's definitely got some pulpy qualities, but it also managed to be sentimental and dramatic. While the style of the film is hard to pin down, all the technical aspects were great (cinematography, etc.). The juxtaposition between Kelly's work as a prostitute and her work as a nurse is a really interesting concept. It's great to see another strong female lead in an older movie. The story feels bold and interesting for its time, and the opening scene really set the audience up for an hour and thirty minutes of excitement and drama. Fuller really brings some some tough social topics, and doesn't sugarcoat anything. Although there are many B movie moments, there are also moments filled with beauty and insight.
The first few minutes of this film are pretty amazing. I didn't really know much about the film going in other than that it's a pulpy noir and I believe that's the best way to watch the film. It completely throws you into the world of this character Kelly and she's an interesting one. The film is about her and her struggle to survive in society. It's refreshing to see such a strong female character in a film from the early 60's. The rest of the film is pretty tame compared to the bombastic beginning. I mean there are some pretty cool moments here. THE NAKED KISS is a film that is ahead of its time; honest and fun. It falls short of being one of the greatest noir's ever but with a strong female character; interesting story of corruption and some truly great scenes here and there.
Tha naked kiss was an interesting film, released in 1964 just before the surge of New Hollywood. The naked kiss does deal with a taboo subject, that otherwise would not have been popular. The film follows a prostitute who moves to a small town in New England. She abandons her "bad ways" and becomes a nurse, the film is about her rehabilitation. I found it to be sort of slow at times, but the overall story was sort of interesting (for being set in that time period). I believe this film probably would have been better off were it shot a nd released in color. Being a product of the 60's, color would have really lived up both the story and look of the film. Overall it is a decent movie, the opening scene is awesome though. When the main character kelly, played by Constance Towers, is beating her what i believe is pimp with a handbag.
The Naked Kiss was just alright to me. I'm not going to rehash the whole plot, but it is basically about the story of a female prostitute, named Kelly, who is trying to clean up her life and falls in love with Grant. Grant is the love her life, but ends up also being one of the biggest problems of her life. I won't say anything more about what happens, but you definitely have to watch it to really get the feel of and understand the story. Besides the plot the movie, it is filmed fairly well and has the lighting of the average film noir. Overall, I don't know that I would recommend this movie, but it is still a fairly interesting movie.
