Waste of time
I wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.
A story that's too fascinating to pass by...
Worth seeing just to witness how winsome it is.
I watched this movie expecting it would be about the relationship between Charlie and the horse, Pete. I expected this movie to move me and show the bravery of a boy to defend his friend and save his life. I don't want to write any spoilers but this movie is nothing like that. It's just a very sad drama about the misfortunes of Charlie and has very very little to do about his relationship with the horse. I gave it one star because the movie title, the trailers are completely misguided. It should have been titled "Charlie's Life" or something like that. The plot is extremely slow and boring. If you are expecting the same things as I did, I would strongly suggest you skip this movie.
Nope! This is not that. Even if they want you to think it is. This is a story of ambition. Struggle for the ultimate destination. And I know those words are heavy but they suit here for the Pete.
And you thought this was just about a horse. Well, it's about a 16 yr old who goes on a life journey facing many trials & tribulations which do strain credulity and probability. Except for the always positive endings for these type movies it is not close to being a Pollyannish Disney storyline. And to all the one, two, three star reviews yes horses die, dogs die, cats die, birds die and everything else including, astonishingly, people. And, yes, young teens can handle this movie for it's many life lessons.
What the hell kind of person thinks it is a good idea to make a movie like this? Must be friends with the idiot who made Manchester By the Sea because there is something called purposeful violence in film, but there are some things that are so far embedded in taboo that you should just not go there. Divine Dog Syndrome is a film term...same thing goes for horses. What the hell drives someone to write that horrific scene into a film is beyond me. Charlie lost and lost again...the horse getting spooked would have been the moment where he saved what couldn't be saved...like himself and there is the hope. I do not care if this gets posted, but I would like you to forward this to the dick who thought it was a pivotal moment that needed to be in the final cut. Coming of age is supposed to give hope and inspire. You did neither. I grabbed a Sharpie and wrote on the dvd, "do not watch horse dies" before returning it to redbox. If someone did that for me with Manchester, I would be better off today.
