I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.

An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.

Cracks is cinematically beautiful. There is something almost magical about it and the color palette reminds me of The Secret Garden. When I watched the trailer I expected something very different but I think I was pleasantly surprised. The trailer presented it as very mysterious and almost frightening. Netlfix marketed it as "lesbian flick". It is much more than those things. I love movies that I can really dissect and analyze and find symbolism and deeper meanings like I am in literature class discussing a book. These are the best type of movies. This is where I was first introduced to Eva Green and it's my favorite performance of her's next to her work in Penny Dreadful. She is so enigmatic as the seemingly adventurous and admirable Miss G. All the actors do a superb job at convincing us that these characters are real people and not just people get paid to spit out lines. The ending left me thinking and reflecting for hours wanting to know more. It is a story of jealousy, admiration, fragility, fear, innocence, and above all desire. I could not help but to think of Lord of the Flies while watching it and having a light bulb go off in my head as to why it seemed familiar.

'Cracks' is a low-key, slow burning psychological drama with a dark and unexpected ending. The emphasis on dialogue and character development makes for a pleasant surprise and is not something you typically expect from a modern day thriller.I thought Eva Green delivered the stand out performance of the film as the mysterious and unpredictable Miss G. She was excellent throughout. The film does well to sustain tension for large parts of the film as the relationship between Fiamma, her classmates and Miss G develops. Despite its slow pace, 'Cracks' is never short on drama. Those who enjoy unpredictable and tense psychological thrillers should give this film a chance. It is one of the more thoughtful and intelligent thrillers out there.

What attracted me to this movie was interesting storyline and Eva Green. And when story got slow and little bit boring, I kept watching it with my eyes wide open because of beautiful cinematography: scenes of nature (especially water), flowers; subliminal messages 'bout transience of time and rather life than death. First class cast did a great job of convincing the audience in credibility of their theatrics, and we all could have empathized with any of a girl in that private school - luckier with Fiamma, less lucky with other, poorer girls, and some of us (I'd say most of us) with a teacher, dreamer with her unfulfilled dreams which she weaves of stories from realistic fairies from all around the world. At the end, you can't decide who are you more sorry of. Luckily, movie provides enough empathy for every watcher. There are cracks in everyone, but only few can find courage in themselves, make metaphorical glue, and wait and see what happens next (with their reasonable desire(s)). Message Miss G thought us was that you should indeed turn your dreams into reality, because if you get stuck in the mold, every day you're procrastinating "getting out", it would be harder.. and you'll end up changing 5 things from your commode. Forever. And remember - chase your desires until they're not hurting someone else.

At an elite British boarding school, a group of girls idealize their mysterious swim teacher Miss G (Eva Green). Miss G tells the girls stories of her adventures before she decided to become a teacher. Di (Juno Temple), the leader of the group, and Miss G's right hand girl, has a teenage crush on her incredibly attractive teacher. But when Fiamma (Maria Valverde), a new student from Spain, joins the group of girls, Miss G becomes infatuated with Fiamma. But Fiamma does not care for Miss G's attention. She is a highly intelligent young women who has not been held captive in a boarding school her whole life, and Fiamma starts to notice that Miss G is not who she seems to be. Eva Green is remarkable as Miss G. Every time she is on screen I could not help but stare into her eyes, she is absolutely gorgeous. Green displays serious fierceness in her role as Miss G. She strikes every note right, and she cuts to the heart of the audience with just a simple look. She reminds me a lot of Marion Cotillard, they both have the eyes that tell a story of their own. Also check out Eva Green in "The Dreamers". Juno Temple is perfect as Di. She knew how to give her character the soft, and pompous creepiness that it needed. Maria Valverde who played Fiamma was the weakest of the main cast but that does not mean anything. She still held her own against Green and I truly enjoyed what she brought to the role. I can't wait to see what these young actresses do next. The film is directed by first timer, Jordan Scott who is Ridley Scott's daughter, and it felt like she made this movie with complete ease. I hope her next film is just as good. I give Cracks a 9 out of 10
