For all the hype it got I was expecting a lot more!
brilliant actors, brilliant editing
Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.
By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
Starting as some sort of wacky comedy, the movie gets a bit dull for about 30 or 40 minutes, catching interest once again and more or less staying like that until the DEPRESSING ending. Sorry, I don't mean to give away any spoilers, but people should know that, regardless the humour in the movie, the ending is depressing. Until the end, it is one of those movies that combine comedy, drama, thrill and a few other genres. It reminds me a bit of "Platillos Volantes", particularly the end (which I didn't find so depressing in the Spanish film). And, well, the big difference of "P.V." being based on actual real events.A watchable movie, although nothing really special about it (the plot itself is somehow original, but there's not so much brilliance once it is put into action).
Great science-fiction cum thriller Korean comedy which actually ends up as a bitter social satire of South Korea's recent history. The film starts as the hero, a deranged beekeeper, kidnaps the wealthy CEO of a chemical conglomerate because the former believes that the latter is an evil alien. Then there a two stories unfolding in parallel: the criminal investigation by the Seoul police, and the confrontation between the kidnapped CEO and his abductor. During the time of the abduction, we slowly realise that the CEO and the deranged beekeeper have known each other for a while, and that the most wicked is not the one we thought... When the police finally find the CEO and his kidnapper, all hell breaks loose the ending was the one part of the film I liked least. The film is still a must see. Very recommended.
From the trailers and box-art - I was expecting SAVE THE GREEN PLANET! to be some whacked-out J-comedy/sci-fi film that would not be something that I'd be too interested in. I was wrong. While definitely containing comedy and sci-fi elements - there is a lot of other stuff going on in this one as well...Lee Byeong-gu is a strange kid who thinks an important businessman is the head of an alien race who is setting up to overthrow the Earth. Through various degrees of torture, Lee is determined to find out the true nature of the businessman, and thwart his plans...BUT...is Lee correct about the man's true identity - or is he just a complete whack-job who has ulterior motives for targeting his victim???Definitely not the "light-hearted" comedy that the film appears to be from the trailer I saw - SAVE THE GREEN PLANET! is a VERY entertaining and well-made film, especially as a debut feature from director Joon-Hwan Jang. There are definitely a lot of humorous moments in the film - but they are mostly dark and somewhat twisted. This is one of the few films that successfully balances many genres and pulls it off all successfully. I personally found the ending to be a bit predictable - but the "ride" there is definitely worth it...9/10
WARNING--THIS MOVIE CONTAINS EXTREME VIOLENCE AND BLOODSHEDI really wanted to love this movie. After all, it has one of the most inventive plots I have ever seen--a man is convinced that there are invaders from Andromeda and he kidnaps the highest-ranking one of them! The problem, though, is late in the film this quirky comedy becomes a giant bloodbath! You find out this crazy but likable kidnapper had killed and dismembered a dozen others AND the movie itself becomes unrelentingly violent and bloody! The gore level is so high, that I have great reservations recommending you watch it--kids should definitely NOT watch the film. And that's really too bad, as the performances are excellent and the story takes so many delightful twists and turns--especially with the amazing ending to the film. With a re-editing and getting rid of the gratuitous gore, it could have easily scored a 10. I would really love to see this movie remade with this in mind.
