This story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.
The film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.
Excellent and certainly provocative... If nothing else, the film is a real conversation starter.
Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.
I loved this little film, shown only in the Studio Ghibli Museum in Mitaka. A great little film about a girl going on a camping trip away from the big, busy city and meeting all kinds of nature spirits: River spirit, Forest spirit, Wind spirit etc (including a Totoro-like spirit that caused the younger kids to laugh and whisper his name). There is no dialogue from the girl but the spirits make various sounds relevant to their own nature (No pun intended). All the sounds are made by mouth. Wonderfully animated and, since there is no dialogue, easy to follow. It is similar to My Neighbours The Yamadas in tone and the animation style is not typical to Ghibli's feature Film. It's a pity, but understandable, that these films are not available outside the studio.
