Taking the Plunge

A quiet and introverted high school senior by the name of Gaby is asked by the school's principal to welcome and supervise the integration of a new student, Sandrine. Outgoing and cheerful Sandrine is the complete opposite of Gaby; yet, the two girls soon develop a bond and Gaby slowly comes out of her shell. Pent up emotions about a past accident and old friendships comes back to hunt Gaby after she learns that she will have to tutor Frédérick, the swim team's champion and school hunk.

It's no definitive masterpiece but it's damn close.

There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.

what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.

Written, directed and acted like a very typical US-made teen comedy. All the ingredients are there: good looking teen cast, pop-sounding but generic soundtrack, a few local Quebec celebrities thrown in the mix like Olympic diver Alex Despaties in a surprisingly well acted supporting role, and you get your average moderately entertaining flick.Sure, all the roles are stereotypes but what do you expect ? Once you get over the annoyingly clumsy product placement, like for Super Écran, a pay-TV broadcaster that has it's logo in the most incredibly stupid and hard to believe spots, like gym towels and coffee cups, in a school, no less... you have to endure a low-budget music score and predictable plot. But, hey: all those kids do a decent acting job. Fans of Eva Green should look for Catherine de Lean as Julie, the resident bitch: she could be her younger sister.
