The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.

First... excuse me for English mistakes, it is not my language. Although this movie is looks like some another gag movie form Mike Myers, there are some hidden and profound messages in every joke of Guru Pitka. He is basically making you smile while giving you spiritual advice on how to live a happier life. I watched other Mike Myers movies and didn't find them so interesting but this is amazing! The more you see it, the more you will realize what advice he is giving to humanity... (I don't want to write spoilers so please see it yourself - instead of concentrating on jokes try to concentrate on what is he actually saying in his gags) I was really astonished to see that this movie is so low rated, in my opinion it is unbelievably underrated. Too bad, I would love to see continuation of this film.

This came out at roughly the same time as Meet the Spartans. What a double whammy that was. For a while I thought my brain would turn to gray slime. There's corny and there's corny. This was a 12 course meal with corn at every serving and with cardboard being the only other ingredient. It felt like Mike Myers had gone off into his own little Mike's World which bore little resemblance to what anyone else found funny. Maybe its too much to expect one man to keep churning out gems like AustinPowers and WW which were undoubtedly good and original. Love Guru. An attempt to satire the self help, new age, spiritual movement's big-hitters and money-makers. A good target maybe. Maybe not. It certainly didn't expand into a good movie. Being 6 years ago I thankfully don't remember much about it. I do remember my 13 year old son being as baffled as I was. Films like this actually get made? People get paid to do it? And they're experienced film makers, not High School students? Life isn't how we imagined it.

I both love and hate this movie. My perspective may be atypical because I don't watch television, follow hockey or read People magazine. I had never heard of Deepak Chopra or Mariska Hargitay before seeing the film and wouldn't recognize Oprah Winfrey if I were seated across from her. Mike Myers's Guru Pitka character is not likable or sympathetic and the romantic angle is not credible in the least, although Jessica Alba seems entirely sincere. Many of the jokes are insipid, some of the homoerotic humor is cringeworthy and a few jokes are pushed too far. But the film offers an abundance of humor at various levels. Ten minutes of this film offers more gags than many comedies offer in their entire length. I especially enjoyed the pop tunes played out of context, the music/dance numbers, the parody of Bollywood films, Ben Kingsley, the sportscasters, Verne Troyer's office, the animal travel cages and the notion of Canadian hockey team dependent on a black superstar. Other parts were extremely stupid, such as the cotton candy, Judi Dench and yoga bits. But there are more than enough gags that hit the mark or reasonably close to overlook the enthusiastic and energetic efforts that fell flat.

I saw this movie the first time when I was still a senior in high school. The two male members of the household and I watched this movie because we expected Mike Myers to deliver. I will admit that I was disappointed when I watched this movie for the first time; in fact, it was my sibling who had enthusiastically wanted to watch this movie more than I did. However, I am a person who gets bored with contemporary culture easily. I do not like modern movies and TV shows that much; I also lost my interest in video games. So I decided to buy this movie because it only sold for $3. To my surprise, I liked this movie a lot upon my second viewing. It made a lot of good philosophical and self-help points that especially seem relevant to the problems that a lot of young people my age tend to face. Despite the fact that the movie featured tasteless humor, I nevertheless did find it funny. The second time I watched it, I had not been grossed out as much because I was obviously more mature. I also like the music and the hockey in the film.I have the suspicion that many do not like this movie due to the fact that it features dated humor. However, I find Mike Myers' 'dated' humor to be funnier than movies out now such as Horrible Bosses, Pineapple Express and the Hangover Part III. Even though Mike Myers may be making enough money from the Shrek sequels to opt out on acting, writing and directing for now, I still do miss his comedy and would like to see more of it. I, for instance, would like to see him star in a movie with Jim Carrey eventually; maybe they can do something like the Odd Couple.I will conclude my review by stating how surprised I am that this movie received such low reviews. I, for instance, find this movie to be better than the original SpongeBob Squarepants' movie. I can obviously see how this movie received poor reviews from critics. I am also not surprised by the negative reception the movie got from the general populace, but I am surprised by comments that the movie is bad enough to have killed Mike Myers' career. Even if the movie does feature tasteless humor, I do not think anyone can deny that it manifests glimmers of Mike Myers' former brilliance. Finis.8/10
