Very interesting film. Was caught on the premise when seeing the trailer but unsure as to what the outcome would be for the showing. As it turns out, it was a very good film.

The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

The film may be flawed, but its message is not.

Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.

I been attending these festivals since 2013 and I thoroughly enjoyed this film. Even though it was predictable at times, I do relate to the characters and feel like I know them as well. These scenarios do happen, believe it or not and I think they played out well. This was more of a storytelling film based off the scenarios given than a film showing performances of DJ's and people dancing which I what I wanted to see and which I did enjoy from beginning to end.

I decided to watch the movie because of the title and it felt like a treat. I said to myself 'Hey, let's find a modern term used often in texts and internet messaging as a movie title and this is what I've found and it was worth it.XOXO follows a popular internet DJ who embarks in showing off his music work live at a music festival however meets a lot of people who help him along the way but face the cliché of challenges. Each of the characters have their moments and the movie wastes no time showing this off and the trouble they run into feels expected. The characters also look a bit unreal and very unappealing as they sweat as they journey throughout the movie. Maybe adds to the typical struggle they face like any other movie but still, am I missing something, but in a way, I like it, the kind of characters I would expect to meet on a road trip to the festival.I praise the use of production value considering the other genres of music that are dominating the scene right now. Surprisingly good use of camera-work right down to their wardrobe and make up. Not just for the music itself. It's worth the watch as the build up to the ending was built very well.

I liked the movie. The characters and story weren't really that interesting since we don't delve into them that much. What I found compelling was the themes that the characters embodied. Themes that connect to my generation. Krystal and Ethan are the idealistic youth, Ethan is trying to make his dreams come true and Krystal is pursuing fairy tale romance/love. They both think it will all fall in place at XOXO. Ray and Shannie are young adults about to start their careers while Ray is finishing his 5 year program Shannie is moving away for work. So they attend XOXO to escape a harsh reality. Tariq is trying to pursue a career he is passionate about while at the same time trying to please his dad and make him proud. There is also a culture clash Tariq's father doesn't really understand Tariq's decision but he is not portrayed as bad guy he just wants his son to be okay in life but Tariq wants to do what he loves. As a person coming from an immigrant family I can understand that. We have older generation interacting with the younger. Neil is an older DJ who looks down on the newer generation (Millennial bashing), DJ Avilo who preys on the younger generation in order to stay on top and Anders is the one who embraces the new generation and helps to cultivate them.

Dance music is kind of difficult to capture in film. Even portraying dance music in a pop show on television never really works, because outside of a rave club, watching dance music is a bit boring.Director Christopher Louie in XOXO has gone with a Robert Altman route of six mainly young strangers colliding on the way to and during a rave festival.Graham Phillips has the main role as he plays DJ Ethan a YouTuber who with the help of his friend and manager Tariq gets to DJ at the festival. However he does not have the necessary passes and the equipment he uses is not compatible with that of the festival. Tariq is unavailable as he gets lost in a drug haze as he has been inadvertently spiked. There is an older clubber who seems to be bitter about something and past business relationships. There is a beautiful young girl who is planning to hook up with someone and a young couple who give their tickets away and then trying to gain entry into the rave. There is a hotshot DJ who leeches the work of younger talent. It is all shown in bright vibrant colours with lots of young beautiful women and plenty of texting. The music was supervised by Pete Tong and after a shaky opening when you might wonder if this film is for you, it actually settles down pretty well.
