Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior
It is the story of an average, popular American teenager named Wendy Wu who discovers that in order to win the coveted crown she must first learn the way of the warrior. Wendy Wu has a one track mind, and that track leads directly to the title of homecoming queen -- no unscheduled stops, and no unnecessary detours. When a mysterious Chinese monk named Shen arrives to mold Wendy into a fearless kung fu warrior, however, her royal aspirations suddenly jump the track as she desperately attempts to juggle her boyfriend, her homework, and of course, the fierce competition to become homecoming queen. Now, as Wendy begins to train her mind, body, and spirit in the ancient tradition of the martial arts and her inner warrior gradually begins to emerge, the girl who once obsessed over popularity finally begins to put that popularity into perspective as she gradually realizes what truly matters in life.

Excellent but underrated film
Instead, you get a movie that's enjoyable enough, but leaves you feeling like it could have been much, much more.
I wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.
While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.
This is basic Disney fare. Cute and kinda of funny...clearly aimed at teen and pre-teen audiences. No problem there..but I did have a problem with Brenda Song trying to step away fromo her "London Tipton" role...she barely pulled it off. At any moment I was expecting a dumb comment or one of those vauge "duh" looks to come over her. She obviously was playing a bit of a spoiled high school girl..not a real stretch I suppose. The idea of the story was nothing new...it was pure Disney. What always gets me in these films is while these magical things are going on..no normal person in the film seems to notice anything. In this one...I wondered why the Grandmother had not bothered to start training her granddaughter earlier if she khew what was going to happen? As always...Disney stories involve growing up and finding happy endings..which this one does...after quite a bit of annoying things in between.
The movie,Wendy Wu Homecoming Warrior, started off by first introducing Shin Koyamada as Shen,a Buddhist Monk(from China) who is well-trained in martial arts and is destined to battle against the evil and powerful Yan Lo(and die).He can only defeat Yan Lo together with the Yin Warrior who is reincarnated as Wendy Wu,a pampered junior high school girl who is only concerned about popularity, fashion and boys.Wendy is now only concerned if she would become homecoming queen(in her school) but she also have to deal with Jessica Dawson, her rival since she was a child,as Jessica is competing against her to become homecoming queen. However,Jessica has a better chance of winning as she is more responsible with a better record and grades and Wendy is worried when Shen comes along and worsens her mood.Soon Shen manages to convince her(with the assistance of Wendy's grandmother). In the mean time Yan Lo goes around possessing people to get rid of Wendy's powers to prevent his destruction. Finally,Jessica is possessed and Shen together with Wendy have to fight her.Wendy now gave up going to accept her title as homecoming queen and battles Yan Lo.They successfully get rid of Yan Lo and Wendy sends Jessica off to become homecoming queen, giving up her dream she had been having since she was a child.Thankfully,Shen and Wendy destroyed Yan Lo forever without him being able to return and Shen wasn't killed,he is alive and not dead which was what should happen to him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!That would be the storyline, those who think that it was reasonably good are insane.I mean it was ferociously unrealistic with sudden events like Yan Lo suddenly showing his true form and Shen alive.I particularly felt that Brenda Song HAD FORTUNATELY saved the day as the overall performance of the other actors(especially Shin Koyamada) were relatively poor except for the character of Jessica(Ellen Woglom).Thw whole movie was somewhat hilarious because of the character of Wendy Wu.The factors that spoilt the movie are the storyline and the acting.
I'd give it a 2/10.I was really, really disappointed. The storyline was poorly developed, for instance, the incidents were too short and brief, hence the moral was not clearly brought out. I thought Brenda Song did a fine job, but Shin Koyamada seemed to have a difficult time handling his role. I could see the need to put in western elements in the show, however, there are certain parts, where Chinese elements were needed too! The villain for example. His physical appearance resembled a robot, instead of something out of the Chinese culture. The final and the worst flaw, were the incorrect, and distorted facts placed in the show.Others may point out that this is a 'Kid's show' and hence, there is no need for the such high standards. However, there are other Disney shows, such as Mu Lan, which have been much better in terms of story development and presentation. In conclusion, I feel that Disney movies should be better researched and better planned. A good show is not enough with just a series of martial arts moves to depend on.
Uh this was a very interesting movie. I have to say it was one of the better Disney Channel Original Movies, aside from the Color of Friendship (which tops the DCOM charts). Like others, I saw many similarities to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, mainly the original movie. Such as the warrior (slayer) looking the same throughout each life, as well as the mentor. Note the line: "You look different." They both revolve around an important dance to the warrior, and the final battle happening at such time.I think this is the first DCOM that features violence, but don't quote that. It's nice to know that Brenda Strong did at least some of the martial arts in the movie. Or at least I assume so, as she is a black belt in Tae Kwan Doe. So she must have put it to good use in this film. But this movie was full of goofs, some that are just funny. Some cultural misunderstandings. I'm not sure on this one, but inside the mooncake is looks as if its filling is chocolate, and yet Shen says, "I've never had chocolate." Though this filling may as well be Jujube paste which is a very dark red that can appear black-brown.I wish they would have respected Buddha a bit more in the final fight. I wish the statue hadn't been included in it, such as Wendy using it to pivot off it. Also this movie gives us heaps of stereotypes that have been used since the beginning of time. The idea of this film wasn't exactly original, but it was enjoyable nonetheless.
