Very very predictable, including the post credit scene !!!
the audience applauded
It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.
The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
It is very sad that such a talented director is also so demented. The first 20 minutes of this film are filled with stunning, magical scenes. For instance, a bathtub serves as a metaphor of Life; a great feat of cinematography. then, Anderson's Little Match Girl,a pop-up storybook, is filled with live characters. Clearly, the movie is a 10. Yes, there is a lot of sexuality (masturbation, male frontal nudity) and masochism, and these don't detract from, but add to the beauty of the story. But as usual, Palfi then starts gratuitously killing animals. Not staged killings and torture, but actual. He did the same in Hukkle. After some 15 minutes, he poisoned a cat.I don't car what humans do to themselves (masturbation, sex, torture) for the sake of a movie because they are willing participants, but non-humans should not be sacrificed for the sake of a film. NO film requires that.It is too bad that Palfi's talent is mixed up with sadism and the objectification, and therefore lack of consideration for "real" versus symbolic Life. Taxdermia could have been a 10. Hukkle could have been up there too. Both are 2s.
Taxidermia is an acquired taste, filled with visceral dismemberment, explicit sex and psychological sickness. But while many will complain about these portions and quickly consider this another controversial gore fest, It is actually a rather incredible film. It's beautifully shot, incorporating never before seen shots and a very distinct style. Its nicely acted and also has some of the best black humour I have seen in a long time. The story seems rather weak on first viewings but after several re-watches, patterns emerge and some clever political satire pokes through, questioning modern life and what talent is. All in All, Its a film that deserves praise, but is quite unlikely to ever see it.
This brilliantly twisted triptych of three generations of related men may well be like nothing you have ever seen.Beginning with a low-ranked officer situated in a rural farmhouse in WWII, who despite being regimented to his cause, struggles to keep his sexual fantasies at bay. When he one day has (seemingly imaginary) rampant sex with the Lieutenants wife on top of butchered swine, she later gives birth to a baby boy with a pigs tail. We then see the boy as a grown adult, an internationally renowned speed-eater no less, and thus the second story unfolds. Circumstances dictate, producing the birth of another baby boy, which in turn leads us into the final act. To give further narrative detail away would be harsh, as there is much amusement to be had here.Stylistically reminiscent of the work of Jean-Pierre Jeunet (particularly his collaborations with co-director, Marc Caro) and the recent output of Roy Andersson. Yet this is an altogether darker fare. Imagine a more gross-out version of the BBC's League of Gentlemen series. With the themes and messages seeming to highlight societies desire to consume and control (and indeed to control our own urges), this has more in tone with the more subversive offerings of Bunuel, or Pasolini's Salo even (particular in the middle segment).Frequently hilarious, often stomach churning, Hungarian director György Pálfi has given us a surrealistic pillow to put our heads down upon.Just don't expect to eat very much immediately afterwards.
A beautifully disturbed film by Hungarian director, Gyorgy Palfi. I will warn you all now, this film is not for the faint hearted, you do see graphic sexual images, you do see people vomiting, close up, on many occasions and you do see what is meant by self-surgery with about 2 mins of entrails, blood and guts. This film is not for the ordinary film going public, more for the people who like artistic films that are just completely barmy, hence why I love this film. The film is in three parts, each part, a newer generation of the same (in a way) family. each of the generations have it's own story, plot lacks a bit in this film, however, the cinematography is amazing, and I think that if I was to watch this film with no subtitle's and understand nothing, I would still enjoy the cinematography with the soundtrack by Amon Tobin complementing this film to a "T". If you like family films, documentaries, thrillers, suspense, comedies, DON'T WATCH THIS FILM, if you like the likes of "la cité des enfants perdu's", "Das Boot", "delicatesson" and possibly even "guinea pig", then you will marvel in this film.
