There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes

Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.

Naturally the only reason to watch this for me was the fact that it had Sharon Stone in it. Unfortunately, though I was expecting absolutely nothing, I somehow got less. The movie takes place within the rustic country side, in the world of the rednecks, the folksy, "The Real America. The Small Town America". Thusly it must belong to the "city idiots move to the country side and get buggered, either literally or figuratively, by hicks" -genre. This is not merely flogging of the dead horse anymore, but waving your whip over the nearest glue factory. Yes, Deliverance was and is a brilliant film, but it also contained such elements as a plot, some common sense, mood and characters you didn't hope to die from the word go.The story is, in all of it's generic depression, this: Sharon Stone and her husband, a documentary movie director guy, move out of the city since their children are either bred wrong or it's just natural selection that makes them run in front of cars like it's going out of style. They manage to find a huge Wayne's Manor with it's own forest, the yard the size of a golf course and a swimming pool for about $3,50, since "it's foreclosed, yo, so the bank sells it real cheap like". But who would have know, the former owner shambles in looking for a job.I hated this character from his very first scene. And I don't mean that he is written to be a hateful character; I mean I am amazed how it is possible to write such a generic, pointless, irritating and uninteresting main antagonist. Of course also the dad starts to immediately hate this newcomer and this feeling is mutual. The audience merely hates everybody, since they are all equally boring, pretentious, over reacting bunch of monkeys. My very favourite series of events begins when the redneck dude saves the children from a snake that is in the pool. When he himself gets fired, the whole house is suddenly full of snakes. And every family member magically places their hands on the slimy buggers at the exactly same moment. I can hardly imagine the mountain of Oscars that must adorn the window sills of the responsible parties' trailers. And somehow the horrendous musical score manages to make this embarrassing mess even stupider than it already is. Which is an considerable effort.Of course the movie is also eternally long. After 30 minutes I had spent all my hospitality, but the thing just keeps chugging along. To my peer Sharon Stone fans: let it be known, that she does what she can with the stuff she is given, but her role could just as easily be played by a marionette made out of dead rats. Juliette Lewis is also present, wasted like everything else.In the name of honesty I have to report that there were few rather decent scenes near the end, and they bothered to even pay off some of the things that are set in motion. This is good, because almost an hour and a half is used to nothing but these preliminaries. Also, the ending is so sickly anticlimactic and the zenith of predictable, that even the makers of silent movies would have laughed it out of the room. You could easily foretell everything that happens, and usually it looked better made and more visionary in your mind. So, this was, in a word, wretchid. I was lucky I saw it on the television and didn't pay a dime. Even though I would like to urinate on my audiovisual equipment just to make sure no remnant of it remains within my apartments threshold.

A family relocates from the city to a dilapidated house in the country that was once a grand estate. As they begin renovations, they discover their new home harbors a secret and may not be completely free of its former inhabitant. With a great cast and some fine acting Cold Creek Manor succeeds to deliver some fine characters unfortunately the dumb dialogue and script make the film really "broken" with a daily villain that has mommy and daddy issues and a leading character that is basically a "chicken" and also one of the dumbest scenes i've ever seen with the whole family screaming in front of the snakes but like i said it's not that bad the plot is interesting and the actors are trying to save the film as much as they can i'm going to give Cold Creek Manor a 7.7/10

The Tilson's son Jesse almost gets killed in a traffic jam, and that forces The Tilson's to relocate from New York. They move into a dilapidated old mansion, which was once a huge estate. The belongings of the previous owners are still in the house. A mysterious man shows up, and makes things difficult for The Tilson familyYawn. That pretty much describes what I thought about this movie, but IMDb insists at least 200 words to write a review, so I'll give it a go. The main problems with this movie are that it's quite dull, and it's very derivative. If you've seen movies like Pacific Heights, and so on, you'll know what to expect coming into this one. The suspense is pallid, and there are no thrills to speak of. The setting is certainly good, but they don't take advantage of it. The Tilson family is filled with selfish and inconsiderate people, and these are supposed to be the good guys. They are completely disoriented. Cooper (Dennis Quaid) is a complete wimp, and whines a lot. His obsession with the mansion also drove me crazy. If someone put a bunch of poisonous snakes into my house, I'd forget about my pride, and ensure the safety of my family, and get the heck out of there! But he wants to stay. It's sheer stupidity like that, which makes Dennis Quaid's performance tough to buy. Quaid himself isn't bad, but his character is idiotic. Sharon Stone does well, but her character is also unlikable. She is selfish in the extreme, and is willing to sleep with her boss to get a VP spot. How am I supposed to rally behind that? Her character becomes a little more understanding in the second half, but it was too little, too late. Stephen Dorff (Dale Massie) got on my nerves as the villain. He smokes cigarettes in almost every single scene! I don't have a problem with smokers, but that's a bit much! I got tired of his overacting quickly, and I wanted to backhand him one. I also got irritated by how everyone is oblivious with him. Juliette Lewis plays his girlfriend, and gets smacked around by him, insults him, and then defends him when the Sheriff comes to defend her (!) Kristen Stewart does fine in one of her early roles, but she's a bit of a complainer. It also has stupid plot holes. Cooper tells The Sheriff that Dale Massie is crazy, and The Sheriff asks for important evidence, before she can investigate further. Yet, she saw just how crazy he was, when he beats up Juliette Lewis. The finale feels like it goes on forever, with a prolonged attack from Stephen Dorff. I actually yelled out loud "Just end the @######! thing!" Final Thoughts: I hated this movie. It wastes a great cast, and gives them foolish characters. It's also boring, and uninteresting throughout. Save yourself the trouble3/10

This movie was a disappointment. I love movies about people moving into fantastic old mansions, discovering sinister secrets, and solving a great mystery in the end... but this was just too predictable. The culprit, the town bad boy, was also entirely the wrong kind of person for a movie in the "old mansion mystery" genre. One would have expected more class from him, some spectacular findings, and some kind of twist in the end... but nothing. The full potential of the house - which in itself should have been perfect for a haunted house story - was not used either. The movie was also much too slow. It ought to have been cut with 20-25 minutes. The main actors were both good and attractive, of course. But as always when they use big stars, one expects something more - so one just becomes more disappointed than if the actors had been unknown.
