It's hard to see any effort in the film. There's no comedy to speak of, no real drama and, worst of all.

The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.

After I've seen this movie, I think some things have to be said. Lets start with the bad things: -Franks character is horrible. I mean horrible. Every word he says is annoying, every time he is on the screen you want to rip out your eyes and feed them to your eyeless cat. This character was worse than Jar Jar Binks. And I hate Jar Jar Binks. Hearing the jokes of this character really made my brain bleed. I wanted him to die from the first minute. And this joke of a character was meant to be a reference to Jacky Chan?!?! Treating this legend who has done so much for the action-movies with that little amount of respect is frustrating and made me angry. I am still angry about this. What the hell? -The dialogs are awful. Not just bad. They are the worst crap you have ever heard. For real. -The loss of Jet Lis family at the beginning of the movie is just not of any interest for the character at any point of the film. That is ... weird? -Almost all fight scenes were speeded up. It makes the action look bad sometimes, which is a pain in the ass, because the choreography was done very well and the performance is great! Sad decision though ... Now the good things: -Some kills just look amazing. Very nice gore-effects were used. -The stunts are g-r-e-a-t! -Maybe the best woman-kill-scene I've ever seen. -DEFINITIVELY the best helicopter-scene that was ever shot by any human being. Damned, why they don't do stuff like that anymore? -One of the most enjoyable fights in the movie was the last fight by the character Frank (who I still hate). It was absolutely not fitting to the role he was picturing, but done amazingly! Cool ideas, again an awesome performance (this time not by Jet Li) shot in a brilliant way.I gave 6 of 10 because I LOVE action movies and I LOVE martial arts, stunts, explosions, flying bullets and dying people. Why not more? Because of Frank. THIS CHARACTER WILL HUNT ME IN MY NIGHTMARES! It seems like I'm overreacting but I am for real when I say that my ears puked into my skull. I wanted him to die so badly, I still do ...

The action sequences in this film are utterly superb, among the best in Hong Kong's long history of fine action films. Yet it's a difficult film to recommend. There are a number of real problems with the film. First and foremost is Wong Jing's decision to use the film to strike out at Jackie Chan. While I can understand that Wong and Chan did not work well together on City Hunter, and a case can certainly be made that Chan is overly fond himself and does, indeed, occasionally use stunt doubles (contrary to hype), nothing suggests that Chan is a coward and a raving lush. To suggest this isn't mere satire, it's direct character assassination. This is an incredibly bad strategic decision. All fans of Chan, all who only respect him, and perhaps even many who have only heard his name, will find this attack unnecessary in the extreme and profoundly upsetting. And there is more in the film to upset the average viewer. The film is not only excessively violent (I rather like excessive violence), but depressingly so. Innocent women and children splat like flies against a window. Various efforts at heroism and decency go unrewarded or even punished. The whole atmosphere of the film is gaudy, dark, choppy, nasty.Wong Jing has made many films, and some of them are even quite fun. But this isn't really one of them. Wong's history shows that he also doesn't take his profession very seriously, and many of his films suffer for it, getting terribly sloppy at times - and Melt Down is no exception. Which is unfortunate - when you have a stunt crew like this, action choreography as good as this, not to mention Jet Li at the top of his form, so much could have been done, yet it is here left unaccomplished.Oh, well. Occasionally fun, occasionally disturbing; one last good thing to say of the film is that the end is surprisingly strong and satisfying. If only the same could be said of rest of the film.

This is one of Jet Li's absolute best in my opinion, and one of my favorite Die Hard Clones out there!, with an amazing performance from Jet Li!. All the characters are fantastic, and the story is awesome!, plus Jet Li is simply amazing in this!. The fight scenes are simply fantastic!, and i really liked all of the characters!, plus This has got to be one of Jet's best acting performances in my opinion!. It's got some very funny but really bizarre humor, and, the opening is very memorable and quite disturbing!, plus i cheered out loud when Jacky Cheung's character Frankie Lone's character stopped being a wuss and took action!. The character development is actually really good, and i thought Valerie Chow(Fai-Fai),Billy Chow(Kong),Ben Lam(Rabbit),Kelvin Wong(Doctor), were all very menacing as the main villains!, plus the finale was fantastic and very exciting!. The ending is great, and it has some of the coolest action scenes ever!, plus i thought Jet played one of his coolest characters!. This is one of Jet Li's absolute best in my opinion, and one of my favorite Die Hard clones out there, with an amazing performance from Jet Li, and i say Go see it now!. The direction is fantastic!. Jing Wong/Corey Yuen do a fantastic job here, with awesome camera work, great use of colors, fantastic angles, and keeping the film at an extremely fast pace!. There is tons of blood and violence!. We get hundreds of extremely bloody gunshot wounds, lots of bloody gunshot wounds to the head, chopped off hand, impaling, harsh bloody beatings and more!. The Acting is wonderful!. Jet Li is amazing as always and is amazing here, he is extremely likable, fantastic in the acting department, gives one of his best performances, had a really haunted character, had great chemistry with all of the cast, kicked that ass, is very charismatic, and played one of his coolest characters! (Jet Rules!!!!). Jacky Cheung is awesome here, and was quite hilarious, however i did get tired of him being a wuss at times, but cheered out loud when he stopped being one!, and while he is no Jackie Chan, he is still pretty damn cool!. Kelvin Wong is good as evil Doctor, and played his sleaze ball role well!. Billy Chow is as always one intense dude, and played his role very well, he had an awesome fight scene with Jacky Cheung!. Valerie Chowis very sexy, and played he role very well i just wished she had more to do!. Ben Lam is cool as Rabbit and had one wicked laugh, loved when he threw the snakes everywhere!. Ma Wu is funny as Frankie's father i loved him!, he had great chemistry with him. Chung-Hsien Yang is amusing as Joyce's boyfriend cop i liked him. Chingmy Yau(Helen),Charlie Yeung(Joyce), are both hot and do what they have to do well. Rest of the cast are fine. Overall Go see it now!. ***** out of 5

Jet Li is Kit Li, a man who after his wife is killed by a terrorist with the moniker of 'The Doctor', finds himself working for Frankie Lone, the drunk action star who doesn't do his own stunts (Jacky Cheung lampooning Jackie Chan). When they find themselves at the mercy of the Doctor and his goons once again, this time after priceless diamonds, it's up to everyone to do their part to foil the terrorists evil plans. Like a Chinese Die Hard, this film lacks the spirit that made the Bruce Willis action extravaganza such a classic. The humor falls flat, and granted some of the action stunts and martial arts work, there's not enough of the latter, and only a few nice set pieces of the former (the helicopter scene is the only one that sticks out in my mind). The version I watched is missing some footage, I hear, but I doubt it would have made the film better really. As it is you get a simply passable film, with a hopelessly derivative storyline. My Grade: C- DVD Extras: Talent files; Photo gallery with Jet Li trivia; Theatrical trailer; and Trailers for "Once Upon a Time in China" 1-3, "Red Dragon", "Gorgeous", & "the Prisoner"
