i must have seen a different film!!
I wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.
This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
A group of three tourists, a couple on the verge of getting married and the best man, go backpacking in the mountains. They are left stuck in their paths when one of them accidentally steps on a landmine and is unable to move.During the first half of the film, its unavoidably messy, badly acted and the initial set up and reveal is very hard to believe (and the film does a bad job at helping us believe). It's all the worse when you consider how this idea could be such a neat claustrophobic thriller if done right. However, the set up leads to something rather chilling and then gives us a particularly unique last quarter which I must admit was very effective and unexpected. The last quarter worked really well, I just wish the set up was better.
Sure, some movies can portray violence in a tasteful way. It can be used to show a variety of things, raw human emotion being one of them. I'm no enemy to violence in movies, but this was one of the most disturbing things I have ever seen. There is an extremely graphic rape scene, and a good portion of the movie is just sexual violence. But still, the movie could have perhaps redeemed itself had Chris simply got his revenge on Ilya. But he didn't. Instead, he terrorized Ilya's underage daughter (in the same sexual manner Ilya terrorized Alicia), eventually killing her. Other things to note: the setup was terrible, the Tarantino quote from Jackie Brown was awkwardly slipped in within the first five minutes. I can understand what Levan Bakhia was going for, but it was just an absolutely disgusting attempt at a Tarantino copycat and I think it could've been much more original. And nobody wants to see graphic rape scenes, just for the record.
This is one of those movies where I constantly had mixed feelings about it. Sometimes I thought the movie wasn't going anywhere, plus that the acting is not the greatest but at the end I thought it wasn't a bad movie at all. There were some scenes that were hard to watch. Scenes where I wanted to jump out of my couch and beat the crap out of some characters but when I think about it, it is a good thing that I felt like that because it means that the story got to me. At one point I thought it was never going to end and one character in particular was really annoying me. It's a low budget movie, with no outstanding actors, but the story all fits together at the end. It's about revenge and it gets emotional. Moral of the story, don't do to others what you don't want to be done to you.
I've never commented about any movies. This one is my first, as I feel obliged to do a good deed encouraging not to watch this absolute rubbish. It's shocking to me, that this movie has won a few awards and has quite high rating on IMDb and I would really love to look into peoples eyes, who gave this movie 10 points and discuss the movie. Guys, really?! The only good part of this movie is the nature. The surroundings of Georgia are really beautiful, I love nature myself, and camera man gave me a chance to have a glimpse at the wild scenery of the country. Firstly, I thought it can be quite interesting movie as stepping on landmine idea is quite unique idea and the beginning looked promising too. I liked development of relationships of characters the first 10 minutes. It looked real and believable. But everything went down the hill the moment the landmine has appeared. The twists of story looked unreal after and the whole movie looked like a puzzle made of piece from different puzzles with just edges marching together. The crazy mans with a dog character looked really unbelievable and I couldn't imagine myself to meet such a weirdo in the real life. Well, maybe I haven't seen enough yet in this world. I could only give a credit to the main female actress and she tries to give more than basic acting. The main male actor looked more real at the first part of the movie, scared, with no control while trying to control smth at the same time. But in the second part of the movie where revenge kicks in, he looked just pathetic and his friendliness towards crazies' wife and his dialogue made me cringe and wanna puke. When I watch movies, I try to take something good from them, to get some inspiration, some laugh, fear, etc. I couldn't find anything positive I could take from this movie. Maybe I could recommend this movie only to criminals, prisoners who enjoy seeing rape scenes, dark and sick ideas, sadists, persons with high animal-ism instincts. Cause the rest, the positive things in the movie (like saving other persons lives, family values) didn't look real to me of just were basic and really boring. I finished movie till the end with hate feeling about myself, that I have watched it till the end and wasted my time, hate at the writer, who must be really obsessed with sex thoughts and sick images and movie reviewers who gave this movie high points and made me believe in and watch this movie. Even the next morning I woke up with this eeeew feeling and wished I've never watched this stupid film. Sorry for mistakes as Im not native English speaker. The lesson I've learned, you have to be careful choosing movies which even has 6 points of 10 or more. Some of them are.. you know.
