Best movie of this year hands down!
Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.
Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.
I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.
Pink Floyd: Pulse (1994) *** 1/2 (out of 4)Shine On You Crazy Diamond / Learning to Fly / High Hopes / Take It Back / Coming Back to Life / Sorrow / Keep Talking / Another Brick in the Wall Part 2 / One of These Days / Speak to Me / Breathe in the Air / On the Run / Time / The Great Gig in the Sky / Money / Us and Them / Any Colour You Like / Brain Damage / Eclipse / Wish You Were Here / Comfortably Numb / Run Like HellFilmed at Earls Court on 10/20/94 during Pink Floyd's The Division Bell tour, this concert film often splits fans in regards to the quality of the music. There will always be those who don't see this as Pink Floyd because Roger Waters wasn't involved but attacking the film for that alone just doesn't make too much sense to me. I will admit that I didn't care too much for the music during the first portion of the show, which is included on disc 1 of the DVD. The "show" itself in regards to the colors is downright amazing as it's so easy to just get caught up in the terrific light show that you really don't need to notice anything else. However, as a fan of music, I must admit that I didn't too much for some of the songs including "High Hopes," "Take It Back," and "Keep Talking." As you can tell, these are all songs from The Division Bell so if you're a fan of that album then perhaps you'll enjoy the first part more. The second set (on disc 2) kicks off with a complete playing of the Dark Side of the Moon album and it's beautifully pulled off with an effective stage show as well as strong performances vocally and musically. The entire album is pulled off to perfection and at times it's quite breathtaking to watch and listen to. The encore features fan favorites like the classic "Wish You Were Here," "Comfortably Numb" and "Run Like Hell." All three encore songs are done terrifically and the lights again are just amazingly done. PINK FLOYD: PULSE was a rather strange show for me as I really got bored during the first half but if you're feeling the same way it's certainly not worth turning it off. The light effects of the first half should at least give you something to look at and then the second half is a complete hit.
I went to see Floyd on this tour (actually at Earls Court 7 days prior to this gig) and they were awesome! No DVD can hope to live up to a (Pink Floyd) live performance, but this one comes closer than any other I have ever seen.I have been a Floyd fan for well over 30 years and as a fan I am not sure what buddraft (see "Thoroughly Disappointed") was on when he saw this footage, or even if he was watching the same gig! As far as I'm concerned the DVD is damn near flawless (my only gripe is the splitting of the actual concert footage over the two DVDs - they should have put the concert on one disc and the features on the other - but this is a minor flaw), the performances are astounding (as is the musicianship), the sound is stunning and the camera-work is excellent.THE best live DVD ever, and something for all other bands producing live DVDs to study before they produce one.
In this DVD, the pink floyd experience is completely seen. The DVD is absolutely amazing and is probably one of the best music performances ever to be recorded. The lighting, the music, the guitar solos, all perfect. Any one who is a fan of music, whether or not you like pink floyd, will be stunned by this DVD.P~U~L~S~E delivers on a new level creating what is possibly the greatest stage performance of all time. Make sure you stay tuned for the encore featuring the unforgettable performances of comfortabley numb and run like hell. P~U~L~S~E traverses a completely new ground of live concert movies. As i said before, anyone who appreciates music will enjoy this DVD for its genius blending of music and visuals. Enjoy.
I just received my copy of Pulse on DVD and I have to say that it was absolutely worth the wait. Out of the forty plus concerts in my collection, this is one of the most impressive. The sound quality is so amazing. It has to be heard to be believed. And the lighting is so intense, it literally fills my living room with an ambiance like none other. This production is so beautiful it brings tears to my eyes.I have been a Floyd fan for over thirty years and have been lucky enough to see them three times. I was present for the Division Bell tour in Oakland and Pulse really takes me back. The Dark Side of the Moon is done incredibly well.Spoiler Warning...I loved the version of Money from The Delicate Sound of Thunder because of its wonderfully long bridge/solo and the band does not devote nearly as much time to the song on Pulse. But in the context of the Dark Side album, it is much more pure and accurate, which is quite appropriate.Pulse is a must have DVD.
