The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

This is an okay little thriller. It's a by-the-numbers story with a twist ending that's more of a cheat than a real twist, but it's competently done and deserves notice for being remarkably family friendly.Kevin Parsons (Marc Blucas) is a brilliant seminary student who finds himself targeted by a madman called the Riddle Killer. With a series of riddles and bombs, "RK" demands that Kevin confess something. But what dark secret could Kevin possibly be keeping from everyone, including his childhood friend and almost-love Samantha Sheer (Laura Jordan)? Police psychologist Jennifer Peters (Justine Waddell), whose brother was slain by the Riddle Killer, suspects it has something to do with the dysfunctional and abusive home Kevin grew up in. But his crazy aunt Belinda (Pricilla Barnes) is no help at all and as the Riddle Killer's sadistic and mysterious plans unfold, you're not sure if anyone's going to survive.Thr3e (and yes, that's the way they spell the title) isn't anything exceptional and it's even fair to say that its plot is rather contrived, its direction average and its acting merely okay. But there are no obvious holes in the plot, the direction keeps the story clear and moving forward and the performances by the cast are likable when they're supposed to be and off-putting when they're supposed to be. Back in Ye Olden Days of Hollywood, this would have been considered a decent B movie with a crazy ending. Now, that ending might be problematic for some. It's honestly surprising, but gets most of that surprise being completely out of left field and not being supported or justified by what happens in the rest of the film. It's a bit like the Sixth Sense, except you can't go back and find little moments in the story that support the ending. That's what I mean by it being more of a cheat than a twist. That bit of deceit on the part of the filmmakers didn't ruin it for me, though your tolerance for that sort of thing may be different.Thr3e is very wholesome for a movie about a serial killer. There are some disturbing images and tense moments, but there's virtually no graphic violence, no nudity and no profanity that I noticed. You'd think this was some sort of Christian-themed film except there's only explicitly religious stuff at the very beginning and end. The bulk of the story is perfectly secular. This movie is a suspense-thriller that you can watch with all but the youngest kids. If your family is in the mood for that, this is the film for you. Outside of that situation, I'm not sure Thr3e has a whole lot of appeal despite being a decent piece of entertainment.

I just watched this film with my m husband and we both loved it. I have worked with Justine Waddell and she was excellent as was the always wonderful Marc Blucas.I had heard little about this film apart from people hating it and bad reviews. What a load of rubbish. This is better than Untraceable which we both love. Like a sophisticated and grown up SawAmazing directed and kept us both on edge throughout. A tautly gripping thriller and kept us both guessing till the end. And it looked amazing too.Brian And Terry Chritmas

As I scrolled through the movie channels, i decided to settle with Encore Mystery because the few seconds of the movie i saw lead me to believe that the movie was going to be a good one. Yet, I was wrong. This movie was perhaps the worst movie ever written in cinematography history. First of all, this movie is not a "drama", "horror", "mystery", or "thriller" it is a "disaster". There are no parts which made me cringe or fearful... the only "horror" bit i actually saw was when Kevin reached for the window and the hand of the non-existent murderer grabs for him. The only extent of the "thriller" is when the non-existent murderer, the non-existent best friend, and the Psychotic man named Kevin are faced with disarming a bomb... which still confuses me because I'm not sure if Kevin made the bomb himself, or if the random hot dog guy did... oh and about that... WTF is with the random hot dog guy? Why the hell did he want to kill Kevin? and there's one thing i haven't complained about yet.... The Cop lady calls Sam on her cell phone and they have a full fledged conversation.... but then apparently Sam doesn't exist? WTF WAS THAT? This movie sucks, don't watch it unless you want to end up as confused as me and your entire February Break destroyed... This movie doesn't even deserve two stars

Yes THR3E was kind of a disappointing movie itself but over all I think it did very well considering it was a low-budget film. Most films are more entertaining than this one but those other films have things like sex, drugs, & rock-n-roll, and cussing to add to the entertainment. Withut those elements this is the kind of movie you end up with. Now I'm not dissing this movie, I mean I loved this movie! I have it on my iPod and I watch it all the time but this book was kind of complex to put on film and I think it was well done. The ending really made me happy to see, I thought they would do a half-hearted job with the whole three people alter ego-ness going one but they really pulled it off. It is a way better idea to read the book before watching this movie but that is normal for any book-to-movie relation. Once my friend told me that this book was going to be a movie I immediately got the book and read it! I was on the edge of my seat to figure out what was going to happen.
