Too much of everything
Great Film overall
If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.
It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.
The movie is considered being one of the classic Swedish comedies, but in my opinion it's not any funny. The concept of the film, about the competing boats would be good enough to make something of, and they have a great cast. The special effects are also good, thinking about it being an old Swedish 80's movie. But the jokes aren't funny. There's no funny situation comedy nor any good verbal jokes. They are just talking incoherently and falling or pushing each other into the water. Too bad.Good old Swedish films are for example "Jönssonligan", "Sällskapsresan" or the films starring Björn Skifs. This one does not belong in the same league.
One of the worst and most boring movies from Scandinavia. What is the point to make a film with OK actors & OK story if it is so extremely dull. I remember this movie was allowed for children to watch, but it becomes a bit to dull and difficult for a 11 year old to follow the story here. Not a movie for children at all. ------ (2 out of 10)
There are not many films from Sweden that you can watch as many times as I have watched Göta Kanal. It's certainly one of the best movies ever produced in this country. The actors delivers extremely well-timed lines and the witty script makes you crumble of laughter! 1 157 846 Swedes saw Göta Kanal in the movies.
I would say there is a tradition in Sweden watching this film... If you haven´t seen it, do that at once! Every big actor in Sweden has a role in this movie, and a couple of not so big actors. The action-scenes are still wonderful and spectacular, a ton of boat- and car crashes, wonderful comedy and a lot of classic lines. A real classic...
