If you like to be scared, if you like to laugh, and if you like to learn a thing or two at the movies, this absolutely cannot be missed.

There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.

This is my first IMDb review! First off, I usually watch anime (e.g. Miyazaki, "Dragon Ball", etc), action movies (e.g. "The Phantom Menace", etc), comedies (e.g. "Mean Girls", etc), drama (e.g. "Philomena", etc) and documentaries — so this is a somewhat outside of my usual fare.I chose this one since I heard it has some well done gore effects, and it certainly lived up to my expectations in that regard. However, I chose to think of it as more of a special effects demo than as a movie — the things that make it a "movie" are sufficiently poor that, like, ouch.Let me reiterate that the gore effects were really well done, especially considering it came out almost 30 years ago. For that, it gets 6/10 stars. The reason it only gets 6 is, like, everything else about it.First off, why do we have to have the woman be the victim and the guy be in the position of power? Sexist, anyone? Grrr. Minus, like, a lot of points for that.Second, there's like 10 minutes of BORING at the beginning before the actual gore effects — and considering that the gore is all that's worth watching here... Again, ouch. (Imagine going to a theater and seeing trailers that are as long as a third of the movie you went to see...) Third, the main antagonist looks fricken stupid. He's wearing this, like, halfway-finished Darth Vader looking helmet thing, and has incredibly lame makeup that I think is supposed to look scary. Here's a hint to movie makers: it's creepier having someone that looks relatively NORMAL being the crazy one than having them be obviously crazy. LOL.Fourth, there are a couple moments where it seems like he might be getting an erotic kick out of this. I did not need to THINK that, never mind SEE it. Pass the brain bleach.... (Also her bra is seen briefly, which seems like nothing more than superfluous fanservice.) So... yeah... End rating is 6/10. But I would say, if you're looking for gore, watch this — there isn't really that much other worth watching, as far as I can tell. I certainly haven't found anything else with this caliber of special effects.I hope you like the review!

This is the second addition to the Guinea Pig series, and probably the most infamous. The film follows a young women who is kidnapped by a man in a samurai suit. The young lady finds herself tied to a bed and drugged. The drugs that are given to her not only prevent her from feeling any pain, but in fact makes her enjoy it to a degree. The samurai man begins cutting off limbs and slicing the women up left and right, but he is not doing it to be cruel, he is doing it for beauty. In his eyes its not only the outer appearance of a women that makes her beautiful but it is also what is inside.Personally the film itself was kind of dull, with having virtually not plot at all, but I am amazed by how detailed and realistic the special effects are. The film focuses on every detail of the human body and how it reacts when getting a sharp blade through it, and slicing it apart. I was jaw dropped by what I saw. Like I have said in previous posts I personally didn't find this film to be very disturbing, but I have become almost completely desensitized do to viewing films like these over the years. I think for the average horror fan that this would be a landmark film in their horror viewing, and would definitely open their eyes to something they have not seen before. But for the hardcore gorehounds such as myself it is good to just have a copy of this film for its novelty.

Satoru Ogura, your average Japanese horror fan, had pretty much lost faith in horror at one point, and therefore decided to make some of the most gruesome horror movies ever. Fake snuff movies, showing nothing more than brutal torture and murder, in all too revealing detail. And so the Guinea Pig series was born. After teaming up with famous manga artist Hideshi Hino, the two quickly started shooting two movies simultaneously - Ogura and Hino both did one. The first movie to actually be released (in 1986 to be exact) was the Ogura-directed Devil's Experiment, and a quick summary on its contents would be 'three men torture and murder a woman'. In short, the movie had nothing to offer but humilation, gore, and torture - but surprisingly (or maybe not so surprisingly) proved to be some sort of success. Although it was only available at underground porn shops and the like, the video quickly found its way to fans of extreme horror and gorehounds. It appears that our samurai has actually set out to add this woman to his so-called collection - by cutting her to tiny, little pieces that is. He uses pretty much everything to do this - knife, chisel, saw, axe; you name it, he's got it. At points, the man addresses the camera and informs the viewer on what's he going to do next, whilst mixing in some random philosophy on flowers, flesh, and blood. Now, if you thought the story was only just starting to unfold, I'm sorry to disappoint you. Flower Of Flesh And Blood both starts and ends at the exact same point - literally. The actors deserve at least some credit. The male actor (his real name has never been revealed) does a great job at portraying the psycho cosplay killer, making him look just as insane as you'd expect a murderous maniac to be. The female actor (presumably Kirara Yugao) does not much more than lying around and moaning - but she does it all too well. The moaning is at times somewhat reminiscent of that heard in porn movies, but is far less distracting than most other sound effects. The chops, gurgles, cuts, guzzles, and burps seem to be inserted randomly and take away from the presumably desired snuff effect. In all its simplicity, Flower Of Flesh And Blood tries for some basic cinematic 'tricks' (if you could even call them that) to spice up the movie for a bit. Camera angles switch often at times, preventing the viewer from falling asleep, and some, err, interesting points of view are also thrown into the mix - most notably the chicken's. However, that's it - all of it.

In the early 90s, Hollywood bad-boy Charlie Sheen contacted the FBI believing he had stumbled upon a genuine 'snuff' movie. What he actually had in his possession was, in fact, Flowers of Flesh and Blood, the second in a series of Japanese extreme-gore films collectively known as Guinea Pig.The film that preceded it, The Devil's Experiment, was an intentional piece of pseudo snuff: fake torture and death filmed in such a way so that audiences might mistake it for real. But Flowers of Flesh and Blood, with its confident direction and controlled camera-work, skilled lighting and decent editing, is far too technically accomplished a film to be totally convincing as a snuff movie. You would think that Charlie Sheen, being in the film industry himself, would have known better! The movie's storyline, such as it is, follows a lunatic as he abducts a woman, sedates her, and then proceeds to reduce her to bloody chunks of meat, using saws, hammers, chisels and axes. The effects are extremely realistic and shot in extreme close up (so that the viewer won't miss any of the gloriously gory detail).Wearing a Samurai helmet and a rubber apron, he begins by hacking off the drugged-up victim's hands. Then he removes the arms at the shoulder and takes a saw to her legs. With her limbs removed, he eviscerates her and chops off her head off with an axe. As a final touch, he scoops out the eyes from the severed head, using a spoon.Without much of a plot, it's hard to describe Flowers of Flesh and Blood as a great film, but it is a highly effective and relentlessly stomach churning experience, and so gets a good rating from me. Gorehounds everywhere will lap it up; everyone else will probably lose their lunch.
