I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.

A lot of perfectly good film show their cards early, establish a unique premise and let the audience explore a topic at a leisurely pace, without much in terms of surprise. this film is not one of those films.

Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.

This is the third and (thank God) final installment in the "Atlas Shrugged" series. The book was notorious for being overly preachy, but from what I've heard, this movie is even worse than the book! It apparently doesn't even have that much to do with it. The most notable part of the book is that there's a 70 page sequence where John Galt talks. This movie trimmed it down to just five minutes. It picks up right where the first one left off, with Dagny being saved by John Galt. The film uses an all new cast from the first two movies, but seeing as how the first two were so boring, I didn't even notice. I think even the Wikipedia summary on this film is tired of it. It only has two paragraphs of real plot summary. Dagny falls in love with John for no reason at all. This is seriously one of the most pathetic romances I've ever seen in my entire life. There's a stupid sex scene which is probably downplayed so much only to give it a PG-13 rating. Most of this film is just characters talking about their political and economic views. As with the other movies, it's hard to hate "that" much because it does create a really relaxing experience. Mike Nelson thought "The Phantom Menace" was the worst movie ever because it was boring? He has not seen any of these movies. This would make perfect material for Rifftrax. Probably the only reason it isn't reviewed more is because it's too dull to even get much material out of it. *

I am a big fan of the book, and I liked the first movie. That said, this was awful. The story is rushed, character development is thin to none, and some of the best scenes from the book are missing. Whether or not you agree with Ayn Rand, she understood the beast (in her opinion) very well, and represented the conflict through engaging dialogue in fiction. There is none of that here. Instead, there is a string of passionate speeches given by the central star but he comes across somewhere between a crazy man on the New York subway, and a poorly edited Anonymous speaker on YouTube. He does not come across as a veritable world leader. There are cameos from various B-list news figureheads, making this appear more a reunion of The Celebrity Apprentice than beautiful fictional story with a timely message.Like others, I saw it to complete the trilogy, and out of respect for an integrity-based way of doing business that is legitimately threatened today. This movie does not help the cause.

This entire series is awful. It is as bland as baloney on white bread without any mayo. The actors are like zombies, the director doesn't have a clue, the storyline is convoluted, and the capitalist philosophy borders on the hilarious. The film also grossly exaggerates the possible impact of socialism in the United States as well. Hello! Bullet Trains in China travel at 300 MPH, why would anyone get excited over trains that travel over 100 MPH?The new engine idea comes from a GM prototype invented in 1974 by Frank Guida, a super-cleaned coal dust which reduced harmful emissions by 600% and increased fuel efficiency by over 400%, but was never used by the company (one of the reasons they are always lagging behind the competition). But this is about the three TV episodes; I really wouldn't classify them as movies. They are box office poison, as evidenced by the minute sales of their showings. The production values are about the only thing to praise in the film, but that is not nearly enough to rescue this string of turkeys. Save your time and money and take out the book from the library.Arthur H Tafero AskMrMovies.comPS This trilogy is going straight into my Turkey Farm on the site

There are many movies structured around Utopia. Lost Horizon gave us Shangri-La where Jane Wyatt played the marvelous hostess, and later in Father Knows Best she symbolized the ideal housewife and mother. The Wizard of Oz gave us a land initially wonderful to Judy Garland until she realized she was homesick for Kansas. In Atlas Shrugged Part Three: Who Is John Galt?, Dagny Taggert's plane crashes in Galt's Gulch, a hidden haven in Colorado where the other inhabitants have been chosen by their leader to create a paradise. Analogizing Atlas the legendary giant holding up the world who shrugs it off after getting no thanks, they have taken their talents away from the ungrateful governments. Dagny finds it heavenly but decides she can't leave behind the battle for Earth. Upon returning she does not remain long, quickly reconciling herself to the world's inevitable demise. After making love with Galt then soon rescuing him from the regime's attempted crucifixion, she heads to the Gulch to live happily ever after. The fundamental question for these movies is whether perfect societies can actually exist? In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve violated their Creator's edict and were exiled. They had merely wanted to use their brains for something, so reached for the fruit of the forbidden Tree of Knowledge. But after deportation, were they any different in temperament? Their incestuous children established the human race, which has had a persistently violent history. The U.S. was founded under Thomas Jefferson's brilliant Declaration of Independence, yet he was a slave holder of black people and nearly exterminated the American Indian. His intelligence did not overcome his racism.Arthur Koestler postulated Darwin's Evolution leaving us with genes from the savage T-Rex, dooming humanity.I've read Atlas Shrugged and seen all three movies. In my earlier review of Part One, I demonstrated how that film adaptation contradicted the novel's premise and I felt the actors did not get it. Part Three differs as in night and day. The theme of this feature largely parallels the tome. The actors understand what they are saying and doing. However, it is your decision if the ideas therein convince you to wish joining Galt's bunch or remain home facing your current circumstances. You may dislike their personalities or believe you wouldn't fit in, assuming they'd even allow you entry. (In the book, admirable Eddie Willers was not admitted, in the movie he is.) If you are attracted by the group's apparent congeniality, consider it a fanciful escape as in Peter Pan or Lost Horizon or Oz.Otherwise simply turn off your video and may you elsewhere discover a distraction from the travails of life.
