Pretty Good
Excellent, Without a doubt!!
There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.
Tedious from the start , descending into pretentious art school project drivel . Might have made a half decent 30 minute TV show. Really - don't bother .
I created an account to review this movie. I have been lurking on this site for many, many years and have never felt compelled to review a movie until now. There are so many things wrong with this movie. Some of the actors are mediocre. Some of the lines are cheesy. There are some cliché tropes. The action is bland. With all that said there are exponentially more things this film does perfectly. The pacing of the film is magnificent. The atmosphere is immersive and the director created perfect transitions between the surreal dream worlds and reality. The menacing qualities of the incubi are terrifying. The effects are extremely well done, especially for an indie movie. The editing is erratic but at the same time the continuity is perfect. This movie thoroughly obtains the all the formalist aspects of film-making. I am not a director. I am not a screenplay writer, or an actor, or a cinematographer, or anything other than a cinephile. But, I know that when making a movie, especially on a low budget, that you must choose what things you value to perfectly tell your story. This director chose all the right things. I beg whoever is reading this to watch this movie. You will not be disappointed.
A wonderful little movie. Doesn't spell it all out for you allows you to actually use your own brain and figure it out as you go. The archetypes are all there yet you can decide what you wish to believe. Very heartfelt and will force you to analyze your own misgivings in the past and the walls we have all built up from time to time to ensure the survival of our spirit. The film gives you hints you just have to pay close attention. Such as "time moves differently here" "those scars must have hurt A lot" I love how the audience is allowed to control their own beliefs just as the maim character is allowed. No ones views are pushed upon you. You have a choice you always have a choice. This is what it means to be alive. You have a choice. Having a bad day? We all have there yet it is a choice to allow it to haunt you or make the most of it.
Definitely different from anything I have seen before. I have the feeling that there is more than Cinema behind this. It feels like some kind of shamanistic art. It has got a kind of positivity which is not emotionally naive, not new age, not rhetorical or superficial, not moral or religious. It is a deeper kind of positivity, and it is brought into a visually fascinating movie with a good script, good acting, and a pleasant soundtrack. You just have to be prepared to a different experience than what you get every day from Hollywood. Although this is not a complicated intellectual movie, and it does not feel heavy at all, it may require a little more commitment than a popcorn movie or a easy going no-think "feel good" movie.
