Simply Perfect
Good start, but then it gets ruined
The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
The film may be flawed, but its message is not.
I should preface this by saying that I usually avoid horror movies, particularly horror films that tend to be on the gory side. But i really enjoyed this movie and and all of its goriness. The movie is really funny. I actually found myself laughing out loud which isn't common while watching a 'scary' movie. The story is pretty standard. A group on their way to a wedding have to stop for the night at a bed and breakfast. The group then has to do with a bunch of sort of hillbilly zombies. While the film appears to be made a small budget, that sort of adds to the charm. I also really enjoyed the musical interludes. They were really funny and a highlight of the film for me. Overall just a lot of fun.
One of the worst movies I've seen in probably the past 5 years, and it has a higher rating than some decent movies. It bothers me that some people on this site simply throw ratings on movies, it makes it difficult to know which movies are ACTUALLY worth renting/watching. Films on the top 250 list are often only given 7-8 stars because users will give them 1 star thinking that it's "funny". IMDb should only allow users to rate if they have established themselves as credible accounts first!!! Some of the music is lyrically amusing, but the acting is just horrendous and I was very close to turning this movie off several different times.Very surprising to see some well known actors in this low budget thriller. Don't waste your time, unless you need a good laugh!!!
"Indie Comedy Campy Horror" is one adjective too much for any movie to be good. This is an annoying movie that tries far too hard to cash in on being "indie & ironic".The following "bad movie sins" were committed by this stupid and trite film:1) Intelligent zombies. I don't care how often the mysterious drifter says "They're not zombies", this movie uses walking corpses that want to kill and eat victims and then resurrect them into the shambling horde. They're zombies, and the writer should quit pretending otherwise. And zombies that crack jokes, do song and dance numbers, and babble and hackle the survivors are not scary or funny... they're just annoying and can be replaced by any other number badly scripted monsters/psychos.2) Song narration First off, song narration is a difficult cinematic element to use when done well. This is once again just annoying. The wandering Indie- country minstrel plays badly, has annoying lyrics, and adds nothing but more crude jokes that do absolutely nothing but fill time. And in fact, the entire character and concept makes me think of a 6th grader that writes a 2 page paper by increasing font size seven times and adjusting the font constantly.3) Stereotypes, not characters. The people in charge of this movie must have thought that "campy" means that there are no actually believable characters. "Shallow sorority sister", "Cute shy girl", "Arrogant jock", "Bitter nerd", "Hick", and "Fat stupid violent hick" are the full and complete concepts of most of the people you will meet in this movie. And you will not care one bit about what happens to any of them, which makes it boring.I don't blame the actors for cheesy dialog and bad story. Most of these guys have gone on to much much better stuff. But I do blame the writers for stitching together so many elements that did not work instead of trying to work on a few elements that might have been good.
A quirky semi-zombie tale about a group of friends going to a wedding in their RV. They stop for the night at a quaint little bed and breakfast. After pissing off the residents, they settle in for the night, only to find out that one of the caretakers, the chef, has been murdered. The reasons for his death are not concretely known and are guessed at by the guests. Then, the owner, David Carradine, kicks the bucket, seemingly the victim of a heart attack. What follows is a rather unusual attempt to bridge zombies and Eastern mysticism with a magic "soul box" controlling most of the small town's inhabitants and sending them out to siege warfare against the bed and breakfast where the surviving members of the RV crew, the sheriff, and a mysterious drifter must build makeshift weapons(the pipe guns are particularly effective) to defend their domain from wisecracking possessed townsfolk lead by one of the RV peeps.Horror hounds will find references to other horror films, subtle and not so, such as Psycho, The Burning, Evil Dead, and Braindead/Dead Alive peppered throughout. The comedy doesn't always hit the mark, but the gore effects are pretty outstanding. I was also reminded of Kill Bill since not only was David Carradine present, but Ever Carradine reminded me of Uma Thurman in a way, and Portia is referred to as "The Bride" in the credits. I don't know if this was intentional or not, but it probably was. The film is rounded out with an eclectic musical soundtrack and a rather unnecessary though amusing country-western bard who appears now and again to tell us the obvious in song. Some of the editing was rough, and certain cuts to actors' faces seemed botched or inappropriate at times. Still, you will find a lot to enjoy about this flick if you like zombie-ish films or plenty of gore. I'm willing to overlook the few flaws of the film since the producers heaped a giant helping of exploding heads and chainsaw slashings onto my plate.
