Wonderful character development!
Very very predictable, including the post credit scene !!!
People are voting emotionally.
All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
Night Of The Demons 2 never knows what the hell it wants to be. Camp? Horror comedy? The tone wavers from something out of the broadest cartoon, to actually ratcheting up decent horror thrills, but never finds its footing. The last act ups the silliness with holy water grenades, nun action and never knows when to quit - it just gets sillier by the second and the film suffers all the more from it. What precedes the last act never reaches the original, but it's a worthy follow up. The production design, cinematography and makeup fx are cheaper than the first entry, but this quick 3 week shoot is competent enough to be worth a watch. The barely one dimensional characters add to the hokey fun and the silliness and low death count keep this from being remotely memorable.
The original is one of my favorite horror movies. It's the epitome of a party movie, and incredibly entertaining. This is nowhere near as good as Night of Demons, but considering it went straight to video it's actually decent entertainment, if you kick your brain to the curb. Like the original, its void of character development and it relies on cheesy entertainment, which it does quite well. The gore is very creative in this one. A jaw is ripped off, someone gets beheaded, and my personal highlight, the weird snake like creature, which strangely happens as a result of possessed lipstick (!) The biblical aspect plays a big part in this movie as well. Jennifer Rhodes is a blast as Sister Gloria. She's a bit of a stickler in the first half, with her overly strict ways, but that turns into kick-ass mode in the second half. Her character is all over the place, and it actually serves the film extremely well. She was a lot of fun. Amelia Kinkade reprises her role of Angela from the first movie. She's older, and not quite as hot. She's still a hoot, though. Cristi Harris makes for a solid heroine, whilst Ben Stiller's wife, Christine Taylor shows up and looks hot. You won't catch me complaining. We have also entered into the realm of the bizarre here. We get balloons, super-soaker's, a nun with martial art skills. It's all very OTT, but quite fun if you let yourself get sucked into it. I would watch this back to back with the original on Halloween night. You'll find your Halloween well spent. If you don't have a party to go to of your own, kick back with Angela!6.3/10
Straight-to-video presentation is a lot more adept and slick than I thought it was going to be and it surprised me to see director Brian Trenchard-Smith attached. With this man on the project you could expect to see blood, sleaze and plenty of demonic make-up FX on show. And it didn't disappoint. It's virtually a retread of the original film, as it does connect back to it. Where it's a crazy, sexed-up mixture of laughs (mocking sensibility) and frights with an eccentric splash of special effects and non lighting. How it goes about things is like you're entering a haunted house ride. Go through the ups and downs, after a slow start it becomes frenetic just like the flashy camera shots and heavy on dark, Gothic atmosphere. After a group of friends are banned from the school Halloween party, they decide to hold their own in the old abandon house with an urban legend which saw a girl disappear and her body never found. The young cast (Cristi Harris, Amelia Kinkade, Robert Jayne, Rick Peters and Christine Taylor) do a good job with competent turns by all (Jennifer Rhodes is memorable), but what they do bring is energy. "Night of the Demons 2" is over-the-top and daft, but vividly fun."This is going to be the party of century."
