Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.

It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.

Revived from his eternal rest, a man cursed with lycanthropy seeks out a famous doctor to help cure him only to find his still-alive monster nearby and begin fighting each other for control of the situation as they both race to come up with their own cure for their conditions. This here was quite the fun and enjoyable effort. One of the film's better elements here is the absolutely fun beginning here as this one really starts off great. The first two-thirds are brilliant, as the creepy grave-robbing of the coffin that revives him is pure Gothic charm that nicely leads into the brief institutionalization scenes in the sanitarium where they all struggle to piece his identity together alongside the fun scenes of his werewolf side out hunting the streets. There's plenty to like here with this one following the desperate search for the cure that it carries the film into a really strong part filled with lots of fun times. Since the search takes him to the legendary Frankenstein laboratory in the remote village where they are none too happy for him to be there, there's plenty of fun to be had here with his arrival there with the superstitious locals and in his efforts for help stumbles across the creature and uses it for help, this picks up that absolutely full Gothic atmosphere usually featured in these efforts and gets plenty of use here. That also leads into the reasoning for seeking out Frankenstein which is also very well conceived and plausibly plotted that really helps the film out, since it would all be lost without that crucial plot element. These are all great and are often spiced up with little parts here and there throughout this one that makes the film fun. That also means the titular fight is well conceived, rather than just being limited to a few grappling moves and strangle holds this one moves around a little causing a little destruction along the way and is one of the best parts of the film. Its finale is also one of the bright spots here, melding the action of the fight alongside the locals' plan to wash away the castle in grand fashion when their plan comes to fruition, really ending this on a high-note. Cap all of this off with a great sense of fun and it's one of the better entries in either storyline, though there are several things in this one that really doesn't work in here. The most notable is a song and dance section in the middle that seems really out of place and at a very odd point in the film. It sticks out like a sore thumb and isn't quite for everyone with its cheesy appearances, lame choreography and really slows the film down. The second half is also a little bit of a disappointment, at least until the final showdown, as it veers off course and becomes a sad mixture of several different story lines showing his intention of doing away the curse and their growing distrust of them at the castle that are quite clichéd trappings which don't quite gel at all. Overall, though, these are all to really complain about.Today's Rating/PG: Violence.

Lon Chaney, Jr. was able to reprise his Wolf Man character here and he does it very well. Once again, he is cursed to live and continue to do destruction. It must have been hard on the people in the village where Frankenstein was brought to life, because, like a flood plain, they were constantly faced with the results of Dr. Frankenstein's experiments. Bela Lugosi plays the monster and is quite convincing. He sports the same make-up and dress as Karloff did. As Larry Talbot (the wolf man) tries his best to put an end to his pain, he meets up with a descendant of Dr. Frankenstein and soon encounters the monster. What follows is a titanic struggle between the too. This could well lead to another sequel. Who knows?

I personally found this to be an exciting film - from start to finish. It's all a matter of personal preference as to whether or not you will like this film (just like all films). This one I really enjoyed Lon Chaney's performance. Very intense and outstanding performance by Chaney. As usual Larry Talbot is wanting a cure or to simply die because of his unwanted infliction - he does not want to harm anyone.Bela Lugosi's Monster is good too - very terrifying. We all know it's hard to fill the shoes of Boris Karloff in the role as the Monster and I think that Lugosi was great - he did his best as always. AND it gives us an idea of what it would have been like if Bela Lugosi had not turned down the role for The Monster in 1931 (Frankenstein). The movie starts out good (maybe a bit slow for some) and builds up to an exciting ending where The Monster and The Wolf Man battle it out.A film worth watching if you enjoy Universal Classic Monsters.9.5/10

Universal Pictures teamed two of their monster elite in Frankenstein Meets The Wolf Man. Right up until Abbott&Costello burlesqued the whole Gothic horror genre you couldn't keep these monsters down. Kill them in one film and they're back again. Gothic horror was one leg of the three legged stool that kept Universal Studios in business, the other two being Abbott&Costello and Deanna Durbin. The whole mess gets started again when grave robbers enter the Talbot family crypt for some night work and awaken Lon Chaney, Jr. restored with appetites still intact. After a night's werewolfing he's brought unconscious to Patric Knowles clinic and Dr. Knowles figures out he's lycanthropic.Chaney then checks out Maria Ouspenskaya the mother of the werewolf who bit him and passed the werewolf curse on to him. She has no gypsy spells to cure Chaney, but they both agree to go to Germany and look for the records of Dr. Frankenstein who was doing all kinds of experiments with life itself and its origins. After Knowles follows them to Germany and they all make the acquaintance of Ilona Massey. When Knowles gets the idea to start playing Dr. Frankenstein the usual climactic mayhem breaks loose as even the frightened villagers who've had quite enough of the Frankenstein family take some matters once again into their own hands. The cycle was getting very thin despite a cast of competent performers giving their best. Fans of Universal Gothic should like Frankenstein Meets The Wolf Man. Too little use was made of Bela Lugosi as the Frankenstein monster and Lionel Atwill as the Burgomeister now having two good arms.
