Lester (Young) is in teenage hell as the kid everyone picks on. He lives with his single Mother who is screwing around with everyone. Lester makes a friend in Judy (Shepis) who feels sorry for him. Lester has romance on the mind but is killed by his Mom's boyfriend. Trying to make it look like suicide, they hang Lester in a cornfield where his spirit enters the nasty scarecrow hanging close by. A year later the scarecrow seeks revenge on all his tormentors. There is nothing new in this time worn story but the nasty Scarecrow played and designed by Todd Rex is one cool looking monster. What could have turned into a fun brain dead slasher film is ruined by a lousy script and the scarecrow talking in puns like a poor cousin of the most annoying version of Freddy Krueger you can think of. A few moments of blood help a little, but this script is so dumb it will eventually get under your skin and rub you the wrong way. This Scarecrow looked great and could have supplied some real scares, if it was in a different film.

This movie is what it is: direct to video low budget horror comedy. It doesn't pretend to be anything more, and is so gleefully, utterly stupid that if you are like me and can appreciate that sort of thing, you will find some entertainment in watching it. It's basically an amalgam of "Carrie" and 'Dark Night of the Scarecrow' in a "Children of the Corn" type setting. It's told in flashback by a young guy determined to give his buds a good scare. The back story is that Lester Dwervick (Tim Young) was a high school oddball treated like crap by almost everybody in the world, including jerky jocks, a slutty mother, and a bitchy teacher. Poor Lester has to watch while the girl he likes, Judy (scream queen Tiffany Shepis, who's easy to watch as always) kisses another guy and then when his mom is getting it doggy style from a local lowlife. Said lowlife then pursues Lester and strangles him to death while a scarecrow watches. Before too long Lester has been reincarnated inside the scarecrow and proceeds to go about administering violent vengeance. And this is all done while cracking jokes in Freddy Krueger fashion. I *told* you this got pretty stupid. But it's a fun and engaging sort of stupid, hard to resist for this fan of B horror. It's definitely got its moments, such as a deputy getting weak kneed at the sight of a victim while the boys who found the body profess to be more intrigued than anything. The scarecrow (played by Todd Rex, also the scarecrow designer and stunt coordinator) does come up with some gut busting dumb lines, while much of the acting is *exactly* as bad as people would expect. That said, it's still very amusing bad acting. (If there's one thing this movie is not, it's boring.) Now, it could have used some nudity to spice it up a bit more, and the kills would have benefited from showing more detail, but overall this is enjoyable stuff with a refreshingly short running time. Even so, the movie does feel padded at times and does have a rather slow end credit crawl. The bottom line is, if one can tolerate blatantly humorous genre junk, they can have a good time watching this. Seven out of 10.

Spirit of a murdered high school geek animates a scarecrow which then takes revenge on everyone. This movie really annoyed me. It has a great looking monster, has some good low budget effects, some atmosphere but manages to short circuit the good stuff with bad. Half way in I started to fast forward and then step through the chapters on the DVD.The problems with this movie are many. First off the cast looks about thirty and yet they are suppose to be in high school. You don't believe anything from the get go as a result. The scarecrow, while looking great isn't much beyond that. He says stupid one liners and moves in a manner more designed to be funny then scary. Is this a comedy or a horror movie? Its a problem that goes beyond the one liners to much of the dialog and set up. It seems more send up of every cliché than heartfelt horror film. I some how expect that the film was made for a very narrow audience in mind, horror fans who want to mock the genre rather than embrace it.Despite the good looking monster this is a film to avoid. Even if you pick it up in the bargain bin for under five bucks, you're paying too much.Avoid.

This movie had the potential to be a decent horror movie. The main character was decently done and I felt sorry for him and there was a decent amount of backstory. HOWEVER, everything else sucks. The director, Emmanuel, is quite incompetent at film-making. He uses some of the most idiotic shots ever.a couple of random sequences of random images dispersed throughout the film. I don't know if he tried to be deep and intelligent and poetic but he wasn't. It was stupid. Random shots of the trailer the main character lived in, random buildings, random pan shots of buildings, random cat which walks away. WTF? And clouds. Lots of gloomy dark clouds.he really liked this technique of having a scene cut up into different shots rather than being just one continuous shot. EX: Guy is trying to light his weed and the camera circles around him. Instead of just one shot, he edits it into like 10 different shots so its really EDGY! and HIP! and SMART! stupid. The acting is horrible but it's what makes the movie so funny. And the scarecrow is a gymnast cause he flips and spins and twirls all the time. And some of the deaths could have been better. You expect the main bully to have a long well built up death but nope. A simple corncob in the ear . The love interest was hot. Voluptuous. Which is why this movie gets a 2.
