Vampire Sisters

Keeping secrets can be difficult, especially when you’re a twelve-year-old half-vampire moving from Transylvania to a new life in Germany. Going to school, making new friends and fitting in — it’s all tough when you can’t just be yourself. With a vampire father and a human mother, sisters Dakaria (Daka) and Silvania don’t live in your typical blended family. Each girl embraces a different side of her genetic makeup: Daka wishes she was 100% vampire; Silvania wishes she was 100% human; and both believe they can finally realize their hearts’ desires when the opportunity to change presents itself. Will Daka and Silvania realize that, sometimes, your uniqueness is your greatest strength?

There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes

An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.

The current (15th of August, 2018) IMDB description is absolutely wrong. The show doesn't have a character named Anastasia who's trying to save her sister from dying after drinking the blood of a dead person. It's about two half-vampire/half-human sisters who move with their parents, a vampire father and human mother, out of Transilvania to their mother's hometown in Germany. There, they attempt to live among the humans and keep it a secret that they're vampires. The two sisters try to deal with and adjust to normal human preteen/teenage life.I loved the movie, as said.

"Die Vampirschwestern" or "Vampire Sisters" is a German movie from 2012 that runs slightly under 100 minutes. It has its 5th anniversary this year and they made 2 sequels since then, the most recent one came out last year. The director is Wolfgang Groos and he has worked on many kids films in recent years. The script comes from Ursula Gruber, who has not done so, but as she really only adapted the novel by Franziska Gehm, it may have been a challenge that wasn't too difficult. And I do think Gruber succeeded nicely. The cast, as always with German kids films, features unknown child actors, but the grown-ups are played by familiar faces such as Christiane Paul, Stipe Erceg, Michael Kessler and Richy Müller, who was wasted a bit here though. It is the story of two teenage girls who are half-human, half-vampire, so they quickly get sunburn, but they don't sleep in coffins or so. I liked many of the vampire references in here and that goes way beyond the ones used by Kessler's character to fight the vampires. He is the main antagonist in here, but he is not scary at all. They wrote him more like a grumpy neighbor and Kessler does not have to show great range to make the character work, which is why it works out nicely. He may be the villain, but he is just in it for the fun and it's more about goofy incompetence and clumsiness when it comes to his character and not about really serious revenge. This is never a drama movie. It's a touch of family film with coming-of-age elements in terms of accepting who you are and it is naturally all about the comedy. The make-up and costumes are fine and the story gets away with a whole lot more than it usually would thanks to the fantasy element. I laughed on quite a few occasions while watching this one and it is definitely one of the best German children films from the last five years. This is already quite an honor because there have been certainly quite a few. A pretty creative result overall. The two young lead actresses were convincing as well. now I just hope it stayed this well in the follow-up movies and maybe at three installments, the series isn't even over already. Who knows if there may even be a forth or fifth movie at some point depending on how many more books Gehm is going to write. I will certainly watch films 2 and 3 at some point and I truly hope they don't get worse as this one we have here was definitely a positive surprise and I recommend checking it out.

If you are an open-minded vampire fan (like me) or a teenager you will surely love this great little movie! A vampire (man) falls in love with and marries a human woman and they have two daughters (born in Romania and moved to Germany). These are half-vampires. One, however, would rather be a full-vampire, the other one rather entirely human. With the help of the owner of a magical shop (perfectly cast with Richy Mueller, the rest of the cast is superbly chosen and convincing as well, e.g. Christiane Paul and Stipe Erceg as parents) they try to change their condition which sets some developments in motion that lead to the winning of diverse new friends (the story is perfectly used to bring up the topics of tolerance here as well) and the coming to terms with oneself and the family. In addition there are cute "pets" and the obligatory (dumb, but entertaining) vampire hunter. Being a vampire fan I especially enjoyed the flashbacks to the vampire times in Romania, but the entire movie is a fun ride, original, witty, well-acted, well-produced (it is a little film after all), entertaining, having great messages and thrilling until the end. And fortunately, there is not only one sequel (equally nice) but two (so far) - fingers crossed for more! By the way: I had not read the book and I did enjoy the movie anyway!
