There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.

It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.

This is a low budget, Scottish slasher film about a group of friends who commemorate the anniversary of The Redwood Massacre by camping in the woods around the spot in which the murders took place. The massacre occurred because a farmer, hearing voices from his sinister scarecrow no less, lost his mind and killed his entire family. The son's body, however, was never found … and now a creepy character in a scarecrow mask is going round killing the otherwise sensible party-goers.I enjoyed this. Some of the acting is a little flat, much in the way of low budget productions, but the characters are all fairly likable. Jessica (Rebecca Wilkie) sporting a mighty pair of painted-on eyebrows; Mark (Adam Coutts), her ex-boyfriend, now dating the wonderful complaining Kirsty (Lisa Livingstone); and finally Pamela (Lisa Cameron), the sensible one, spared from dullness by probably the best performance of all. The locations, mainly barns and forests in and around Aberdeen, are absolutely gorgeous - endless lush foliage it is easy to imagine getting lost in. Redwood House is also impressive, a true haunted looking house in the middle of the woods. Ironically, Clear Focus Productions had always specialised in Health and Safety training films before this project, which involved 200 pints of fake blood.I love that appealing Pamela and sardonic Kirsty are forced by circumstances to forge a kind of bond. These character moments are so important for these kind of horror films – often the makers are in such a hurry to get from one killing to the next, any pretence at making the players anything more than cyphers is forgotten. And yes, there are plenty of killings here! The arrival of a vengeful father of one of the victims is odd. He makes several impassioned speeches and is then killed whilst offering no resistance, leaving Pamela to push her way through the mass of strung-up corpses in her bid to escape. Some further explanation regarding the killer would be welcome. "Whatever that thing is," seems more than human, yet not impervious to bullets and violence – is it the son slaughtered by the farmer? If so, why should he be so keen to continue his father's murderous spree? Ending after a series of twists, this is nevertheless a very impressive directing/writing project from David Ryan Keith who has rightfully won a series of awards. His following film is 'Ghosts of Darkness', featuring some of the same cast, which will hopefully be released sometime in 2017.

I think the poor reviews of this movie are unfounded. The movie was more of a classic gore / horror, and pretty well done in that respect. The gore scenes were very well done I thought, fairly realistic looking actually which made it pretty disturbing. The main villain was terrifying. The mask was well made and quite scary. The bad parts? The acting was okay, but not great. Definitely a B rate performance. Secondly the story had a lot to be desired and was disappointing because it had so much potential to be a pretty good movie. There are plot holes everywhere, and the ending made little to no sense. But if you can look past that and just enjoy the gore fest, it's a pretty good movie.

The Redwood Massacre is an attempt on doing a slasher movie with some urban legend attached to it. Although, it's important to remember that this is a B movie.Given that, it's obvious that the acting isn't great; in fact, it's terrible. Though some emotions got pictured rather good, some dialogs seemed so emotionless, as if the actors were college students trying to present a seminary. It's comparable to the acting on "Birdemic: Shock and Terror" (yep, it's that bad...)!All the clichés are here: an urban legend that happens to be real, a psychopath, bloodlust, characters that are dumb as a door, gore, characters that go straight to the slaughterhouse; it's all here!Credibility in this movie sucks! Though, it's understandable: things aren't that "entertaining" in real life. What I mean is that the main characters on this types of genre never try to get help of any kind, like calling the police or something; but that's the mark of an horror-slasher flick. I can bear that. However, some flaws are noticeable. Some major flaws, actually. If you're that type of person who watches a movie and goes full critic on it, you'll see what I mean. (Some credibility mistakes can't be overlooked.).Plot was nothing special and I felt it was fine, until the very ending. I mean, what more to expect: it's about a murderer who murders. There's nothing to it. Though, to me, they could've developed a better backstory to the main villain. It seemed unthought and kinda mediocre. Also, I didn't like that the villain's personality changed throughout the movie. That's kinda bad and ruins credibility (and the movie) for me. It delivers that feeling that the story isn't flowing "naturaly", that it's being manipulated to the taste of some "sick f***" writer. After the plot twist, I felt that the storyline got kinda rushed. The ending was fine, by its standards, but what's up with one event that happens there? To me, that one fact ruined the movie's ending! It felt as an excuse, an unexplained, unadvised, unthought, excuse! I was in shock when I saw where things were going. Geez!Besides, Kirsty's personality is hateful! I needed to clear that out!Effects were fine, but the blood's color was way too dark. Overall, this movie delivers the same thing as every slasher flick nowadays.

My title kinda' says it all: this movie almost defies description in its complete stupidity. Premises is well-worn by now: a bunch of 30-year old "teenagers" are off on a camping trip to a legendary house where awful murders occurred. They ALL stumble around (I'm thinking because they lack an opposable thumb) and manage to become live bait for the murderer. The first big problem I had with this movie is that (like many of its genre), it doesn't try to build ANY suspense, tension, atmosphere, or terror. The audience sees the killer in the first few minutes, so they had already flushed that potential scare down the toilet. The second problem was which one of these lame-brains set up this soirée? Nobody knew where anybody else was supposed to be or where this house actually was. And I just have one question that I guess ANYBODY can answer: DOES A CELL PHONE EVER WORK WHEN YOU NEED IT TO? Third BIG problem I had was the characters (even when they managed to break free of their bonds) wanted to do the 100- meter mosey to get out of the house. The fourth problem in this was also the accents, which were either heavy Irish or some sort of heavy Brit brogue. Couldn't understand. My fifth problem was the over-use of blood. It became so overdone, it just had no effect. And if anyone believes you're still going to be alive after being hit mid-back with a heavy blow from an axe, well, you're the one that's stupid.Lastly, there's the heroine who is NEVER in a hurry to get anywhere and who cannot defend herself even when she's holding a double- barrel shotgun. Another reviewer said this movie (to them) looked like all involved at least tried to have a good time. Really? You sure could have fooled me.Unrated for gore and language. NOT RECOMMENDED.
