The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.

This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.

This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.

I hate to say the ending is a little bit cliché, however, the movie is cliché but amazing ! I had seen another two movies of Eytan Fox and Gal Uchovsky's before this one, both are "gay theme", both are amazingly good. I said it because I didn't expect that much from the movies, I never thought they share a same rhythm of the aesthetics with me, a person from a totally different culture background. I found it easy to understand and it arouse resonance, unlike some middle east movies. It is very inspiring. I also recommend it because it is not a shallow combination of gay love and war, but a profound discussion of joy and death. And there's one more thing, very good taste of music showed in all of Eytan Fox's works, "good" here I mean "goes on very well with the movie", the overall ambiance. Specially in the last few minutes, when Yossi was watching Lior's photo in which he was dressed as a bunny rabbit, he suddenly shocked by something, Lior told him about the picture the day he died. I noticed Yossi's complicated feeling, he even smiled. At first I couldn't understand his smile when looking at the picture of his dead lover. But, gradually, I came to feel what Yossi felt, Jagger never left his life, and what we were expected to remember, was the joy that Jagger brought to us, with his passion to love and life.

I really enjoyed viewing this film. Although it is in a completely different language and you have to follow it by subtitles, the morals of the film are still clear. The film is about a gay relationship between two men; Yossi and Jagger. They are in the Israeli army and sneak away on several occasions to be together. This changed my opinion on gay relationships completely. I, being a straight person, had never really understood much about gay relationships until I watched this film. The relationships which they form is beautiful and it's only when something tragic happens, Jagger is about to die, that Yossi expresses all his feelings for him. This film will really make you look at a lot of things in a different light as it explores a number of different issues; Gay relationships, unrequited feelings and grieving. I recommend this film to teenagers because there is a lot of different opinions on gay people and it really does make you look at it from a completely different angle.

I loved this film. It filled my heart with joy and was sexier than any porn film I've seen. I was utterly convinced by everything in it and have watched it again and again. For me, as a pro-Palestian activist of many years standing, I did not care where they were or what they were doing there. This film was very masculine and very gay, a combination that I find wonderful. The snoggin (as we call it in the UK) was really sexy and utterly convincing. The film was far too sort. I needed more between Jossi and Jaggar - in particular more kissing because it was wonderful. The icing on the cake would be to learn that there were any lesbian or gay people involed. The actors were fine but it helps our cause.

I hate to be the devil's advocate but I don't see how this movie deserves all the praise that is heaped upon it. For one, it's rather weak structurally; it plays like an episode in a weekly hour long series, on cable, supported by the fact that it was shot on DV. Contrary to the length listed, it is just 61 minutes from post-opening credits to start of end credits. The ending is so trite; seriously, how many viewers out there don't know what's coming right after the mission is made known? I was 100% certain who's going to die when they're going on an ambush. And yes, it's the free spirit, the one who's comfortable as being gay. Oy vey, indeed. Then there is the problem with the two women. Are they soldiers or groupies? One of them sure serves no purpose militarily whatsoever except to be the whore for her superior officer. Is that what really happens in the Israeli military? I don't know but if the movie is supposedly a true slice of life of the military, that it's too corrupt and sad. The movie also doesn't show much of the emotional grief that should have been felt by the surviving lover. I just don't see much of a bond between them and the impact is much lessened by his stoicism. It's also not very good technically. It plays like a music video during the frolic in the snow section with the slow-mo and the zoom in and out camera work. Very banal. All in all, I was probably expecting too much from all the good reviews I've read. Maybe if my expectation wasn't so high to begin with…. Never mind, it really isn't that good.
