Very best movie i ever watch
Simply A Masterpiece
The acting in this movie is really good.
The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
When a severe burns patient is accidentally given the wrong treatment, resulting in his death, the doctor and nurses present agree to cover up their dreadful mistake. Meanwhile, another severely ill patient is abandoned in ER by paramedics, resulting in an outbreak of a deadly infection at the hospital that causes momentary madness in its victims and the liquefaction of their internal organs.Home to misery, pain and death, hospitals are inherently suited to horror, especially at night when their creepy corridors and sterile rooms full of wickedly sharp surgical instruments become all the more atmospheric and ominous. Infection's creepy locale, a grimy, rundown hospital shrouded in shadows, is certainly very effective, the uneasy mood helping to detract somewhat from the fact that very little in this film makes much sense. As the staff struggle to contain the infection, one by one contracting the disease and turning into puddles of green goop, matters get more and more incomprehensible. By the end of the film, I hadn't got a clue what was going on, but found myself reasonably entertained for the duration by the unsettling tone and sheer weirdness of proceedings, which includes lots of green/red symbolism, a nurse sterilising her hands in boiling water, ghosts that can only be seen in mirrors, and several inexplicable shots of park swings that move by themselves.
I like how much work Japanese directors put into the pacing, atmospherics, and suspense of their horror films. This one is no exception. If you ever saw Kingdom Hospital and enjoyed it for the mix of suggestive spooky supernatural undertones clashing with rationalism and materialism thematically, then you might like this film as well. At first I thought this film would turn out to be something like 28 Days with ferocious infected zombies feeding on humans, but there is a much more clever plot line going on which I won't reveal. The plot seemed to have some holes in it til I realized what was really going on in the end. Mainly though, I enjoyed the mix of film with a suggestion of a supernatural influence in a materialist or rationalist world. Visual storytelling gets this idea across with images of, for example, swings swinging on their own near the hospital, or an old crazy lady who sees her dead relatives in mirrors staring at her reflection in a window looking like an apparition. I must say that after discovering Japanese thrillers and horror films, it is hard to go back to Hollywood offerings for sure. They seem so predictable, tame, and cookie-cutter in comparison.
oh my god! this movie sucks. It mixes genres...is it supernatural? is it psychological? is it a drama? I know it is not a comedy...but, it ain't horror, that is for sure. I have seen many horror flicks. Some original, some not so much. Pontypool is an original movie, it's might not be a great film, but it sure is original. It's fresh But this? infection? dear god...the only thing that made me scared was to know that I was wasting time. My opinion? if you believe your time to be precious, don't watch this. A Pauly shore film is better, a porn flick has a stronger plot. Maybe next time our beloved japs will stop for a second, think and then and only then, begin filming.my little chart: a) audio and sound effects: 7. b) plot: 1. it goes from place to place, idea to idea like if the writers did not know and what genre or sub-genre they should focus. c) ending: I will not give ya spoilers...but the ending is consisting with the sucky plot. d) dialogs: we know that a horror flick is not a woody Allen movie, but still, the interactions between characters sucked. e) characters: unrelatable, unbelievable, they had no depths.this movie: a 1. wanna watch something great, watch Shaun of the dead.
I'm not really sure what there is for me to say about Infection. It's not the best Asian horror movie out there, but it's probably one of the better ones that I've seen. It is never once stale, boring, or predictable unlike the faux masterpieces of the subgenre (like Oldboy). Though I'm not sure I'd call Infection really original, it certainly isn't like any movie I've seen before. The atmosphere is reminiscent of Alien due to the green hue over some of the film and the near-perfect execution of the doom atmosphere. It has some moments lifted from The Shining, such as the dog-masked boy, but it doesn't go overboard with the idea. The overall tone is fairly consistent and well-done. The only major technical complaint I had was the horrible production value, as with all Japanese movies. As far as the plot goes, it's pretty straightforward. A lot of the reviews on here are stating that this film is confusing and twisted, but not really. If you've seen another Japanese movie, you know the way they tell stories, and this is no different. The plot twist in the end was pretty neat, too. A lot of it plays out like an H.P. Lovecraft short story, in that the characters all have problems and there are a lot of weird conflicts going on at the same time as the main one. It was a very interesting take on the overdone zombie films, as well.Overall: worth watching. It's a lot better than a lot of the crap out thereJapanese and American alike. It disturbed me a little, and it certainly isn't forgettable.4/10
