Thanks for the memories!
This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.
Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one
This movie was really cute and romantic, but I didn't like how they made it that if the two characters didn't fall in love that it would be the end of the world, God would not leave that up to them. However, the angels getting them together was a good point, I liked that part. The romance in this movie is phenomenal. The sparks between Olivia Newton John and John Travolta are sensational, I like that combination. *Sighs* John Travolta. Plus they're both talented actors, but to my disappointment there was no hand jive in this movie (haha.), but there was this romantic dancing scene. The movie was very witty and beautiful. So it gets seven stars.
Just reading the other review... I don't think anyone was betrayed.I watch a movie to see acting. I don't look back at what the actors may have done in the past. In this one, both John and Olivia did a GOOD job. The movie was done to give us the idea they could do something dramatic with some comedic aspect. I think that most people had saw and locked them into the musical motif. Some people can see an actor in something and never able to see them in another production without thinking of the first. We have seen John perform seriously in Urban Cowboy, Pulp Fiction or The General's Daughter. And his comedic through Welcome Back, Kotter. As for Olivia, the only major movies she had were Xanadu and Grease. This film gave them the chance to show their acting abilities. The story of film is kinda lame, but who knows what God might have up his sleeve. It would be interesting to find out that he is just like Gene Hackman. And to find out that he liked Shakespeare. LOL. But it has the same things that many people might feel: Though we are a bit arrogant and a tad selfish, there is selfless love in us. Course, some of the characters around them can be considered very stereotypical with a little exaggeration. But the movies always take some aspect and exaggerates it a little. The actors are out there to present an aspect of life for an individuals entertainment. No matter how bad the story line or use of music, they do their best to make it seem real. The directors job is to make sure that the script placed before them is what the writer wants and can make it believable.
I keep thinking that this movie is called "Twist of Fate," but that is really one of the songs in a soundtrack that did better than the movie. Captivating enchantress Olivia Newton-John is teamed up once more with her "Grease" co-star John Travolta as a duo who will prove to God, humorously voiced by Gene Hackman, that mankind is worth saving. The devil is also on hand in the form of the big ham himself, Oliver Reed. The movie is one entertaining fantasy best when not analyzed and scrutinized apart. The characters are mildly one-dimensional, the plot superficially illogical and the pace uneven. The magic isn't there as it was in their other movie, but I only watch this movie for Olivia anyway. Travolta may have become a Hollywood-minded Scientologist, but he does have some charm in this as a down-and-out inventor who becomes a fumbling bank robber. Go ahead and curse this movie if you will, but Olivia fans will want to embrace it.
A somewhat unique storyline whereas God decides to end the world again being stalled only by his closest angel advisors who submit to him that the human race is worth saving. To prove it, they set up two unlikely people to fall in love and sacrifice everything for one another - a real miracle.Very much worth seeing - and it is even a cheap owner now. A must see for Olivia and Travolta fans. Not as much fun as Grease, but give it a chance.
