Just One of the Guys

When Terry Griffith loses her high school's writing competition, she's convinced that it's because she's a girl. So Terry decides to change high schools and pose as a boy to prove her point. Her brother, Buddy, helps her pass as a guy so well that she is soon making friends with the boys at school, including the attractive Rick, who becomes her new best friend. But her gender-swapping makes things difficult when she falls in love with him.

When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.

Fanciful, disturbing, and wildly original, it announces the arrival of a fresh, bold voice in American cinema.

I thought this movie wasn't one of the great 80s movie that i have ever seen. It just left me a little bored to tears. I thought Joyce Hyser looked absolutely stunning when she pretended to be a boy. She reminds me of the 1999 film "Boys don't Cry" but this time, she is born girl and dressing up a drag king like. Some bits were funnier than others. I can't remember some of the scenes, even if it was a few days ago but anyway, i thought the show wasn't that exciting or over the top. It may look like an underrated comedy from the 80's, i suppose thats why it isn't talked about nowadays! This is my personal opinion but, i think its just not the best out there, full stop.

A light pleasant comedy with great 80s fashion and music. Great one liners and a nice ending. It has everything, to comedy to being serious. Joyce Hyser should of gotten more lead roles, cause she is a wonderful actress, and very beautiful esp. in the scene were she is wearing the bikini by the pool. I seen the other movies she stared in, and with her talent, Joyce is the one that lights the scene. Also, interesting to see Joyce who is so pretty be able to pull off being a guy. Buddy (her younger brother) is a riot and Terry meets lots of interesting classmates at her new school. William Zabka (Karate Kid, Back to School) plays the standard jock bully. Brings back memories of my days in high school when we didn't have to worry about going through gun detectors to go to school. This was such a classic 80's movie. It is a must see!

First off, Billy Jayne's character of "Buddy" steals the show here. Right there with Farmer Ted(Sixteen Candles),Tim Matheson(Up the Creek) Dave Marshak(Ski School), and Sean William Scott's "Stifler"(American Pie) or "Doug Glatt"(GOON) as one of/if-not-the best goofball characters from the VHS era. He is hilarious!"Just One of the Guys" is sorely under-rated. When more modern films like "Take Me Home Tonight" are ranked about the same - it really, truly is a travesty.Joyce Hyser's performance is far from perfect, but I still think she was a good casting decision. She's not quite believable enough as a guy to really put this film over the top. In her 'female' clothes she is fantastic - she's more charming and effective here when she's playing 'the real' Terri. The film has it's heart in the right place. Not only is each starring role well-developed and well-cast, there are other co-stars that well-represent just about every stereotype that you would find in High School during the 80's.Everything works. From the music, to the writing, to the finale', "Just One of the Guys" is one of the most over-looked comedies of it's generation, and certainly worth a look if you haven't seen it. Some of the acting is less than perfect, but it's light-hearted approach to every subject, and many laugh-out-loud moments make it a real winner.Highly Recommended. You might like this if you liked: Three O'clock High(about even with this), She's All That(not as good), or Fraternity Vacation(a notch below).73/100

The eighties were notorious for great and goof-ball movies! This being a funnier story than a lot of others that I had seen, it's in league with "The Secret of My Success" "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure" a lesser talented "Tootsie" but still very much a fun and wacky teenage tale of ' investigative mischief '. This is an Arizona filmed 'gem' movie. There are many shot in California and other places but, since I have lived here it's great to see familiar territory. Arizona is a great place to shoot certain films anyway. This being one of them. I hadn't seen the lead female or Sherilyn Fenn before, much less Billy, and barely knew Clayton Rohner the love interest of our lead fem-reporter, 'Terry'. Despite any of this, who cares? They did a fairly wonderful job as teenage curious trouble makers and one aspiring for 'greatness' in reporting. This won't take home any awards but it will entertain most viewers. William Zabka was the only one that I truly was familiar with since "The Karate Kid " (1984) which of course hit big at the Box-Office!With so many new comers in this, it is kind of cool to be in the story because it seems more real to me. I think, due to the fact that they are not famous-famous, yet. This wasn't a huge story line or amazing plot with twits and turns, it was an uncomplicated story of high school interaction and of those that are just starting to figure out a life path and begin the coming of age process. This is fun and will be loved by some liked by others and not thought of still by some more. Any way you slice it though, it will come out amusing. The one little thing that I wish the director would have done is have the two 'alien' nerds from homeroom, standing on the curb as they all ride off (Teri and boyfriend & younger brother with biker-gal)and the mother ship 'arrives' and the two nerds look up, smile, a light shines down on them and both turn to glittering matter swirling upward to the ship and then head back into the cosmos.(**)
