August Underground
Imagine walking down the street and finding an unmarked VHS tape. Curiosity piqued, you take it home and pop it in. What starts off as two men screwing around with a video camera quickly transforms into an ultra-realistic torture sequence where the unidentified psychopaths tape their exploits as they torment and violate a woman tied to a chair.

Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.
There's a reason they filmed this with the worst quality possible. I ate a sandwich while watching every "brutal" scene (minus the fake vomit, bc that's the most realistic and sickening thing). Pay attention to when they move the camera away, then what happens once it's back. Take the scene with the two girls. Why does the blonde look like she's literally had blood streaks painted on her (no wound would ever cause those oddly perfect lines of blood running down almost her entire body), yet in the previous scene (yep, before camera cut), she's got nothing on her but whatever she spit out of her mouth to look like vomit?!? Now, it really turns into a comedy when they (again) cut away from the brunette and then back to her just in time for him to cut into her abdomen. I mean she wasn't a small girl, but why has her stomach become massive suddenly? Go look. It looks like she's suddenly 9-months along. Then, that scene that probably grossed so many out...when he sliced into her. You would have to have ZERO knowledge of the internal organs of a human to believe whatever he was pulling out looked like her bowels. The poor camera helps their attempt, but he's pulling things out that look like they could be several spleens or kidneys?!?! Do not let the fact that it's grungy and dirty everywhere make you think these effects are realistic. Watch the camera, and what it doesn't show!
I enjoy the genre that this movie is going for, but it never even gets close. It feels like a couple of teenagers trying to be hardcore but they just don't get it. It's not scary, disturbing, or entertaining in any way. Most of the characters are annoying and there isn't really a plot. Yuck...and not in a good way.
This is one of the more "famous" exploitation films of the new century. Too bad it sucks. It's about a psychopath serial killer who is followed by his friend with a bad video camera, filming his every move. There is no plot - we just see Peter, the killer, roam around and act like a jerk and sometimes kill people. The most shocking part of this movie is the first 15 minutes, when we see a girl who has been tied up and tortured. Her dead boyfriend is in a bathtub in the next room. It's a fairly effective use of gory special effects and a chilling example of the hidden lives of serial killers.Once they leave their house for the first time, however, the movie falls apart. After that, they just turn into stereotypical frat boys who wander around and do immature pranks and annoy people. The script is stupid and unrealistic. I have never seen a movie go from disturbing to boring quicker than this one. The acting is terrible. Peter, the main character, has a super annoying laugh that I guess is supposed to be psychotic, but just makes me want to turn the volume down. We never see the guy holding the video camera, which is good because he mostly just makes bad jokes and acts like he has low self-esteem. They are more believable as pathetic losers than hardened killers. The lesson of this movie is that psychopaths are actually lonely frat boys who are desperate for friends.
The most realistic snuff simulated movie, definitely! While I was watching this with my friends, they were constantly asking me if this was real. The quality sucks, but it's a great movie to watch if this is your kind of stuff. Although this got a little repetitive because it's so gory all the way, if you're looking for a movie that makes you disgusted and flinched, i think this is a good choice for starters too. This film contains a little (or a lot) of everything: violence, madness, two homicidal friends, whores,... There are some parts that you might find hard to understand but it has no importance due to this kind of movie.
