Highly Overrated But Still Good
Although it has its amusing moments, in eneral the plot does not convince.
Excellent characters with emotional depth. My wife, daughter and granddaughter all enjoyed it...and me, too! Very good movie! You won't be disappointed.
It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.
Wonderful movie, brought lot of tears, showing again that love is most beautiful and powerful thing,
I am an absolute horror enthusiastic person who loves it when they deliver the thrills, spooks & extraordinary characters. I felt this had all ticks in the box for a horror but it especially had something different which made it unique & I will definitely be putting this film in my top 50 films.
Marrowbone, or - The Secret of Marrowbone, seems confused. Difficult in fact to call it a Horror film, as the only scares in the film come from sudden slamming of doors or jittery movements of rodents. The film gets too excited by its own twists and turns by the end of the film, leaving you confused and unsure whether what you have seen and learnt has had any value at all. The film has some nice cinematography as well as some decent performances from all of the main cast - not including the youngest child in the family, 'Sam', who is dreadful. Nothing exceptional in Marrowbone, but nothing offensively bad either, and after seeing creative and ambitious horror films such as 'Hereditary', it just seems flat by comparison.
A mother and three children flee an abusive patriarch and move to a remote rural home. While there, strange events begin to occur while dark secrets seem to hover in the background. This gothic film is one which I felt improved as it went on. By the finale, once the twist ending had slotted into place, it made you reconsider what you had just seen and realise that the fabric of the narrative was more complex and layered than previously realised. It later becomes apparent that the narrative is very fragmented and that the story is in a large part one from the perspective of the unreliable narrator. I like movies like this, which can be regarded as puzzles, with pieces not yet in place, or completely missing. Consequently, The Secret of Marrowbone is a very worthwhile film if you appreciate this kind of thing too.
