Admirable film.
It was OK. I don't see why everyone loves it so much. It wasn't very smart or deep or well-directed.
The story-telling is good with flashbacks. The film is both funny and heartbreaking. You smile in a scene and get a soulcrushing revelation in the next.
Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.
Bolloywood has come of its age..long time back. This is just another proof of that evolution. Lootera is one of the best romantic movies made in Bollywood. After Udaan director Vikramaditya Motwane has turned the table upside down and showed his class over a totally different type of movie in Lootera. It is a must watch for all movie lovers. This movie shares the same shelf with "In the mood for love" in my movie collection, along with Baran. I personally admire directors who know how to tell a story. He certainly has that. Will keep an eye on more Motwane classics! If the initial hour of the movie was a casual build up with a sense of suspense, the last hour was intense with drama. Drama unfolds when the two central characters come face to face once again, but this time both facing death in different ways, and thus allowing them to come clean to each other. Although this last part is inspired by O. Henry's The Last Leaf, it is still much more than that. Both Ranveer and Sonakshi did a commendable job to bring the romance alive amidst of imminent death.
It would be somewhat wrong of me, to start a review on a disappointing note. Especially more, when I am about to talk about something so beautiful, that any amount of praise for it is largely insufficient. But I have to. And the only disappointing fact about Lootera was that, it didn't get the attention it deserved. It says a lot about the movie going audience in general, who are binging on filthy films under the garb of this need to see 'Brainless, tension free entertainment'.Lootera does indeed needs your brain. To take it on wonderful journey of a beautiful story, filled with poignant characters and dense emotions. All displayed subtly in gorgeous settings, that not only please your senses but touches your heart.Vikramaditya Motwane made a promising debut with Udaan. With Lootera he ascends to another level. Surprising though, were the performances of the lead actors. I have never been a fan of Ranveer Singh or his energy, so overly displayed in his interviews. But he gives a wonderful display of understated acting which is ironically powerful in itself. Sonakshi Sinha on the other hand grabs your attention with her emotive face and stubborn aura. Adil Hussain deserves a mention as well, for carrying out his short part well. All in all, this is a gorgeous love story in every sense. It unravels wonderfully from start to end. But it will stay with you for a long, long time. Hopefully Motwane is not disheartened by the lack of profit this film made and starts following formulaic film-making. He should stick to what he is doing, cause he is bloody good at it. I am pretty sure, in 10-15 years people will look back at Lootera and maybe appreciate it more. To me its a masterpiece.
Lootera is a film equivalent to a beautiful celluloid painting, the painting looks good, but the really beauty is seen in the tiny details.Lootera is a story love about a thief set in 1950s India. And I swear India has never looked so beautiful before.Film is very niche and artistic. Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha are the soul of the film, they give career best performances, both need to take a bow. Dir Vikram M does a good job, but Lootera is a niche love story made for the urban class who will understand the poetic love story.Overall Lootera is good but i excepted more, but I can understand why the film is being called a classic, its very poetic and subtle. Give it a watch if like watching love stories.... Because this film is something very different
Motwane's direction is so assured and confident that this scarcely feels like his second feature. The script is clearly one he believes in, and the film is resultantly free of false-notes. Even the few moments that feel like narrative missteps turn out to be masterstrokes. And, as exemplified by a breathtaking chase sequence that could result in any number of outcomes, Motwane sides with his story, not with any one of his characters. A film, then, about life, love and leaves. And in the end it comes down to the sort of snow-surrounded tree that you can draw even if you've always had trouble drawing leaves. Magnificent. Very beautifully crafted and made!!!
