Fantastic!
There are better movies of two hours length. I loved the actress'performance.
I am not always moved to write a review of Indian film, but this time there is no holding back my thoughts. At the end of a brutally packed weekend with back to back movies, Haider, Lucy, Limitless & Bang Bang, I can't stop raving about this lesser known, meagerly-budgeted-at-70 lakh Indian Kannada movie, Lucia. An intensely engaging, flawlessly executed film boasting above-par performances, this movie makes you ask the obvious question, Why do we need over-hyped movies "starring" overrated plastic lookgooders who are still "learning the tricks of the trade" at our expense? One watch at Lucia and I guarantee you won't see the need for a sculpted Hrithik Roshan or a potent-but-disappointing- still Shahid or even a mildly-disappointing-this-time-with-Haider (for me, anyway) Vishal Bharadwaj. And I'm not even the arty-movie- watcher type. Such is the charisma of quality. Strongly recommend! Bolly movie makers riding on hundreds of crores, die of shame please. Thank you. This movie is exceptionally well made and puts your to a journey of thought provoking events. Being a psychological thriller I was a little apprehensive about it at first as most of these kind of movie fail to give a logical valid explanation in the end. But I am so glad I was wrong with this one. The conclusion is apt, the acting and characterization is justified. This is one of those movies which prove high budget, glamour and top stars are not as important as a great script and flawless execution of the same.Hats off to Pawan Kumar and team for pulling of such a brilliant piece and holding it together throughout the film.Overall its something you cannot afford to miss. 10 of 10.
One of the gems in Indian cinema. creatively narrated with very good twist in the ending.thoroughly enjoyed from beginning to end.. all characters did good job and main character's two shades impressive and did justice to his role.really appreciate the director to attempt this kind of cinema and he won. if you movies like inception, shutter island this is the movie which makes you feel think and it reflects in mind after watching too. the story may not be digested by all kinds of viewers. personally i like it a lot. great to see the movies like this from Indian soil. if you are into class and creative films you are not going to regret it.Just watch it..
I can use all the best adjectives in English and still someone will describe my review as "under-appreciative". In the time of troubled Indian cinema especially regional cinemas, with Hero-centric, songs- filled (though unnecessary), heroine-exploited (though they can act) films, this is a ray of hope. In the middle of such a Saharan cinema, "LUCIA", is an oasis.Psychological thriller, if taken proper care, can turn into an artistic marvel and Pawan Kumar (Director) has done precisely the same. Lucia is the story of an insomniac who seeks the need of a sleep inducing pill that confuses him between dream and reality causing life-threatening danger. Touch of sheer brilliance glimmers throughout the movie, with the director leaving clues to the audience which a sharp-eared fan can capture to understand "the twist" before it is revealed. The alternate usage of color and black-n-white adds depth and clarity to the movie. Songs, though present, move along with the screenplay aiding the pace. The satirical comedies are also sprinkled throughout (result of illiterate meeting foreigners). The director deserves credit for multiple reasons: usage of an epic production idea, bringing the movie as close to reality as possible, usage of minimal characters in the maximum possible extent, drawing wonderful comparisons between dream and reality. The cast, though I am not familiar with Sandalwood, has done exactly what was needed: neither did they under-act nor did they over-act. Lucia is definitely the kind of movie that we can recommend to International audience.Let this attempt be an example for everyone else will follow.
Movie captures the intricacies of a dream of a common man. Story subtly revolves around an innocence and complications, reality and virtual nature of a love story of a common man and a film star. Film narration draws parallel to Hollywood movies - Eternal sunshine of spotless mind and Inception. The performances of the leads mainly Satish, Shruthi and Achyuth Kumar are laudable. Production and marketing of the film has heralded a new era thanks to the brave efforts of Director Pawan Kumar in effectively pulling the crowds to pull the fund the film and later to make it a success in its theatre run.In total, Lucia has opened a new chapter where a good script, screenplay and good direction can definitely pull audience in times where in a normal movie hero needs to be superhero, item songs and vulgar comedies and void logical action stunts is a must.
