Disappeared in Winter
Daniel is a former police officer turned debt collector. Now in his late fifties, he goes about his "dirty job" without emotion or sympathy. One winter's day, he stops at a roadside parking lot and is approached by Laura, an 18-year-old young woman who asks him to drive her home. He accepts, and on the way, she offers him "her services" in exchange for money. Daniel is furious, and throws her out of his car. But his feelings of remorse and the violence of his reaction lead him to turn around and retrace his steps, only to discover that Laura has disappeared...

Clever, believable, and super fun to watch. It totally has replay value.
The joyful confection is coated in a sparkly gloss, bright enough to gleam from the darkest, most cynical corners.
I didn't put this Géraldine's movie in my watch-list and after watching it, my decision was wise as it's the typical uninspired and depressive french drama ! I have never understood why but those french movies have actually all the same boring, dull setting : shooting the character doing nothing except maybe taking his head, moaning, crying in a room, a street, a car Here, those useless scenes are as long as half the movie so there's a serious problem of content. When the movie gets interested in telling about the investigation, it stays as sluggish to do the really basic steps (speaking with relatives) and honestly, the fact that this disappearance could resonate with his tragic loss is not really moving. For sure, Géraldine brings her kindness but her character has so little to do. Maybe the only thing worthy here is to discover Luxembourger country that is particularly desolated in the winter season !
It only remains a good drama, but not very exciting either. Kad Merad gives here an interesting and convincing performance as an ex cop who happens to search for a wayward girl. An eighteen years old young girl who suddenly disappeared. So, our lead investigates. It is totally unbelievable here to see no one in the film wondering how he can proceed like a cop, without even asking for his credentials, his ID. The audiences at last understand why he does all this, when they discover that his own fifteen years old daughter died three years earlier. That's the most interesting, and I would say poignant, line of the whole movie. For the rest, nothing exceptional here, believe me. Good performances, but that's all. An acceptable time waster.
