Tells a fascinating and unsettling true story, and does so well, without pretending to have all the answers.

Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.

This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.

This prequel to Billa is much better and well directed. It keeps you at the edge if your seat till the end and does not drag at any point.Billa 2 tells the story of David Billa, a Srilankan refugee who comes to Tamil Nadu to survive and soon gets involved in crime and gradually goes up that ladder, killing many in the process of doing so.The storyline is good, film is very fast paced, music is noteworthy, Ajith is the best actor of all, the stunts and action sequences are good, locales of shooting are good. The bad? Some scenes are very disturbing and grotesque, there are many semi-clad women, Vidyut Jamal is good at the villainous role but maybe they could've used real foreign actors itself. After Kaakha Kaakha, I think this is one of my few favorite Tamil films.

"All style , no substance " was the most common view for Vishuvardhan's "Billa" when it got released but it got away in the Box-Office by reaping heavy returns. Once reprieved the production house & its leading star Ajithkumar have tried to milk it once more. But with a weaker script & poorer characterization "Billa 2 " vouched as a prequel to the former falls way short. That the makers have failed to make sure that at least the lead two of the script Billa & his aide Ranjith to look younger is only a starting point of many careless shortcomings this movie is replete with. (May be they should tried showing things like both these undergoing cosmetic surgery to look as sauve & stylish as they did in "Billa" in the end titles...!!)The movie starts of promisingly & first half an hour is riveting. Once the movie shifts to Goa it looses control & disoriented. That one must not look into logic in these kinds of movies is all said & done but there 3 or 4 sequences which would make even the youngest of movie watchers to laugh out loud in their seats. Goa CM murder , rescuing heroine from the kidnappers, smuggling arms consignment unscathed albeit after being surrounded by coastal guards are a few. In the climax when one see Ajithkumar & Yog Jaypee running around the arms mafia's factory with their guns , one feel sorry for them for they have been taken for a royal ride by the writers of the movie.Ajithkumar is an enigma. Time & again he has come out with a very good movie followed by most pathetic ones. It makes one wonder whether he chooses script by picking from a lot or what. He looks old & apathetic sans any enthusiasm one saw in his previous flick "Mangatha". Among others Yog Jaypee & Vidyut Jamwal have done their parts sincerely. Both the ladies in the movie Parvathy & Bruna Abdullah lack even faintest of acting talent & not that they look good either. Yuvan Shankar Raja's background score is average & one do get tired of hearing the same music again and again though it is nice to hear. "Unakulle Mirugam" is a nice song & shot well. "Gangster" is another nice number but relegated to the end credits sadly.Among the few brighter spots of the movie R.D.Rajasekhar's cinematography is one. Cinematography is awesome & on par with any international standards. Color tone used adds to the feel of a prequel in stark contrast to the bluish tone of "Billa". Chakri Toletti does show some promise with his stylish picturization of many sequences especially "Unakullae Mirugam " song as well as the first 30 minutes of the movie. But after that he looses it & movie becomes direction-less & amateurish at many places. That the story & screenplay is very weak makes things worse. Dialogues by Era Murugan sparkles but after a point too much of punch dialogs makes one cringe. On the whole , "Billa 2 " does try to have all the ingredients needed for a mass masala movie like Punch dialogs, item numbers , numerous over the top action sequences , logic-less sequences, super human hero & ever faltering villains but the mix is not in proper proportions. As a result it leaves a bad taste.Bottomline : Stale beer in a fancy carton

The most anticipated movie of the year has been finally released after numerous delays. The expectations were sky-high for Billa 2 and to be honest, it did not disappoint. The film is a perfect treat for action-buffs and also Thala fans.As we have known earlier, Billa 2 is the prequel of the 2007 Vishnuvardhan-directed Billa. Directed by Chakri Toleti (of Unnaipol Oruvan fame), Billa 2 is an out-and-out action film which focuses on the rise of David Billa from being a Sri Lankan refugee into a feared underworld don. The film follows a straight, focused path without unnecessary sequences and comedy scenes.Ajith as Billa is as usual stylish, suave and at the same time violent and menacing with his fear-inducing eyes. He played the role to perfection. No other actor could have pulled off such a performance. Thala Ajith deserves a salute for pulling off the death-defying helicopter stunt without a double. Vidyut Jamwal, in his debut in Tamil cinema excelled in his role as Dimitri. His introduction fight sequence is one of the plus points. Like Vidyut, Sudhanshu Pandey also made his Tamil cinema debut as the cunning Goan gangster, Abbasi. He too, excelled in his role. The leading ladies of the film, Bruna Abdullah as Sameera and Parvathy Omanakuttan as Jasmine performed fairly well in their maiden Tamil films. Apart from that, Yog Japi reprised his role as Billa's right-hand man, Ranjith. Manoj K.Jayan, Ilavarasu and Sriman appear in supporting roles while Rahman as Jagdish appears in a cameo.

Gangster films are just that. It's a genre that has an incredible knack of remaining unobjectionable because it usually doesn't aim at achieving much, openly promoting invincible charismatic heroes, gorgeous girls, loads of violence and bloodshed, trendy looks and styling as its characteristics, but the process of which can have a story or message of its own. Billa 2 fulfills all except the last bit which is its major weakness. The film narrates the story of David Billa, a Sri Lankan refugee who comes to coastal Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu after the civil war breaks out in the island nation, and becomes the dreaded international don in arms smuggling.Billa gets acquainted with brutal life in the refugee camp and raises his voice against those who ill-treat the refugees. He incurs the wrath of a policeman, Raghubir Sinha (Krishna Kumar), and is forced to go on an assignment planned with an aim to bump him off, but a brawny Billa overcomes the tricky situation.Soon, he meets a few mafia gangs and there begins a new journey in his life. On his way up in his quest, he meets Abbasi (Sudanshu Pandey), a mafia shark in Goa. Billa helps him come out of a tangle and gets into his good books. He embarks on a trip to Georgia to meet international arms smuggler Dimitri (Vidyut Jamval) representing Abbasi.
