It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties. It's a feast for the eyes. But what really makes this dramedy work is the acting.

This Swedish special crime unit drama just gets better and better. With the expected high- standard acting, directing and particularly writing, this series is now a must-watch in our household. I like the way the back-story focus on individual members is shifted from episode to episode, with us only awaiting backgrounds on the team's female leader and the tall, quiet bespectacled one. This time the spotlight was on Norlander and his belated fatherhood and Chavez falling hard for a forensics specialist that big Gunnar had his eye on. I was pleased though that their doings were relegated to the background of a cunningly plotted tale which started off with a cop-killing, took in gangland thuggery and an opportunist theft before the major strand of a paedophile ring took centre stage.Yes, the long arm of coincidence came into play more than once, especially when the boss uncovers a major clue in a five year old magazine she happens to browse whilst getting her hair done, but otherwise the story gets you where you need to be efficiently but stylishly, with the chase scenes and climactic moments handled especially well.I strongly recommend this series, it's less bleak and quirky than either 'The Bridge" or "The Killing" and probably more mundane in many respects than its two more celebrated predecessors but I find I'm possibly enjoying it even more than them and just hope the high standard continues.

This, the third of the series to air on BBC4, started with a bang when a car containing a Swedish family exploded in The Netherlands. The 'A Unit' are put on the case and soon discover that the man driving the car was an undercover police officer who had been working undercover at a restaurant belonging to celebrity chef David Billinger. Forensics suggests that the car was blown up by a gang of Dutch drug dealers. The police start to investigate the restaurant believing somebody there may have been involved with the drug dealers. We don't see any sign of drugs there but Billinger is negotiating the purchase of a valuable painting so it is possible that this was somehow the motive. Meanwhile Nyberg has being working with the anti-paedophile unit where he has befriended fellow police officer Sara Svenhagen… who unfortunately for him gets involved with lady's man Chavez. This was another solid installment in this fairly gritty Swedish drama although it wasn't quite as gruesome as previous Stories. The opening half set things up nicely; introducing various suspects and no less than three possible and very different motives; drugs, money for stolen art and child abuse. Even though the case didn't initially centre on the child abuse it was obvious that it would become important; why else would Nyberg have been seconded to that unit if it wouldn't be part of the main case?! I have enjoyed the way that this is very much about a team of detectives not just one or two with the others merely side characters… here they are all equally important. The team has a good dynamic which helps in the more humorous moments… not that there are too many of those! There are a few shocks; a couple of times it looks as if a member of the team might be killed but that is nothing compared to the surprise in the final scene… although that is more pleasant! Overall I'd say fans of the series should enjoy this story about as much as the previous ones.
