I'll tell you why so serious

It was OK. I don't see why everyone loves it so much. It wasn't very smart or deep or well-directed.

A lot of perfectly good film show their cards early, establish a unique premise and let the audience explore a topic at a leisurely pace, without much in terms of surprise. this film is not one of those films.

This movie is a definition of masterpiece, one of the best of Georgian cinema of this epoch. The story develops very fast in the beginning, a young villager loses his father, then all his property, goes to the city, meets a woman under ridiculously weird conditions, falls in love with her and helps her in spoliation of evidence. His attempt fails and he gets arrested. The prison is a large size underground wine vessel, where he is placed with an old, half crazy "scholar". His madness is evidently the result of a tragic love story from his youth. He has a poetic dream to build a flying machine and fly over the grave of his sweetheart. The young guy teams up with him, hoping to see again the woman he loves. Thus starts their adventure, full of absurdity and ridiculousness. The movie delivers lots of laughter, some tears and absolute satisfaction. While the script itself is brilliant, the director does a superb job. Acting is equally high level. As for the music, it is a cooperation of Giya Kancheli and Jansug Kakhidze - two gems of Georgian music. I believe it is impossible to dislike this movie and even more, you cannot avoid falling in love with it. :))

Thumbs up for this pure pearl of soviet Georgian cinema. Highly recommended and not only for Georgians but for any moviegoer - everybody finds something appealing in this wonderfully developed and very well done film. As for surrealism, it is exactly what makes to feel this film with its every bit: this surrealism is speaking on the language of every country and every nation.And if you still doubt a word of mine, just watch this movie and you will know what I was talking about... The director Eldar Shengelaya is very well known in Georgian movie art. The other highly recommended movies of his are "Tsisperi mtebi anu daujerebeli ambavi" and "Arachveulebrivi gamopena". By the way, all his movies show that he catches both the glimpses of daily life and the meaning beneath them with the pure professionalism and it is just pity he has not directed any movie since 1996.All in all, watch and enjoy!!!

Under the cover of the comedy and double meaning the director managed to avoid the sharp-edged editing of Soviet censorship. The story is set up in unknown place, abstract country, where the majority of society is "normal" and people with different ideas are kept in isolation, treated as criminals or mentally ill, as a danger for others. Wonderful cinematography and soft, delicate humor of the film remains as an unforgettable journey of human spirit.
