The story-telling is good with flashbacks. The film is both funny and heartbreaking. You smile in a scene and get a soulcrushing revelation in the next.

Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.

Enjoyable moody coming of age character movie about a woman who on the outside if brash and provocative but on the inside is still a little girl who desperately wants to be loved. It's a movie about loneliness, forgiving and self-belief. The backdrop feels slightly rebellious, almost throwback to the Germany I suspect the writer grew up in. Feminists might complaint is that this movie lacks a feminine touch, clearly a story and character written by a man about a woman. But I like the clean-cut nature of that, as a female this doesn't offend me. Great locations and costumes. It makes for a good foreign language watch as it's light on dialogue but heavy on atmosphere.

"Liebe mich!" (a title probably even worse than this film) is a German movie from 2 years ago written and directed by Philipp Eichholtz, who is an aspiring German filmmaker that was in his 30s when he shot this one. It is a fairly short movie as, even with the ending credits, it only runs for roughly 80 minutes. The title "Love me!" refers to the main character's longing to be loved, not only in an amorous sense, but also by her father. So the movie is about family struggles and relationships, but also about the protagonist's problems of succeeding in the world of business. Lilli Meinhardt plays the main role and while I did not feel she was really good, she was okay overall I guess. I am not familiar with any of the other actors in here, so you can check out the list yourself. I think most of them did fairly solid, but nobody really stood out. Even I as a German film buff have not heard of many of these names. As a whole, this is a film that goes for realism instead of fiction. What we see in here is a story that is basically happening in a similar fashion many times. Nothing really spectacular happens and as a consequence of that I also have to wonder if these characters here are really interesting enough (also the main character) to justify a film. Your choice to make. I found it fairly bland overall. It's absolutely fine to go for a convincing character study I must say and you don't have to go for showiness or great tragedy or drama, but only if you manage to elaborate convincingly on the characters and come up with a subtly impressive work. I would not say that Eichholtz succeeded to that regard here. But he was still pretty young and I hope he can step things up in the future. This film is far from a failure and there are some strong moments included. But ultimately the bad outweighs the good and one very drastic example of that is the ending which is the worst case of feel-good and forced happy ending you can think of. It has nothing to do with reality. 5 minutes earlier, the main character had big arguments with her boyfriend and her dad and then, it is all fixed out of nowhere all of a sudden. Sadly, this film hit rock-bottom at the very end and it's nearly impossible to look past that. I give "Liebe mich!" a thumbs-down. Not recommended.

This movie is reminiscent of Wetlands but lacks the biting power and extremes of humor. Therefore it is a worse movie. The woman who is not extremely beautiful loves men who are not also which I suppose is realistic. Her father is as odd as she is. She is her own worst enemy, neurotic and needy. She also can be creative and fun. But she seems to have an over whelming need for love. The plot is minimal but it starts that her boyfriend who she fauns over is sick of her and she changes into a loud hysterical bitch who throws her computer at her boyfriend. It goes through the window and thus begins her search for new housing and a new boyfriend. She grows up a bit. Since we don't like her it is hard to feel a lot of concern. Had she ended with the fat unlikely man who loved her and was made whole it would have had a point. It barely did. But if you like German films about adolescence, well it says a lot about the culture and is well made.
