It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.

"The premise of all comedy is a man in trouble."-Jerry LewisWith a title like 'Mr. Accident' coming from a film maker named Yahoo Serious, you can anticipate a film filled with one particular character (named Roger Crumpkin) banging and bumping into and destroying many things.During the course of this celluloid homage to the slapstick genius of yesteryear, one is treated to a linty of well constructed, creative and interesting sight gags. While trying to make simple toast Roger manages to set his apartment on fire, starts a flood, and creates a storm of feathers that blow around his apartment. While at a bar trying to pick up girls, he manages to throw away a lit fag (cigarette) into some goth girls hair. While out on a date with the girl of his dreams, Sunday Valentine (Helen Dallimore), he manages to destroy the calm restaurant scene where they are having dinner and manages to have a bowl of gravy land on a waiter's head. He also gets Sunday's nice dress doused with car oil. While driving his wreck of a car, Roger's AC , which is broken, causes his car to become an rolling icebox where he can't see clearly out the window due to all the frost. He manages to drive himself and his roommate Lyndon (Grant Piro) off a cliff into some weird auto junk yard where he finds.... While in the fold out bed... can you guess?Roger lives in what seems to be the top floor of a very high apartment building. So.... While putting out his garbage by his door, manages to knock it over, which knocks everyone else's garbage cans over all the way down to the bottom floor, causing an avalanche of garbage cans to come crashing out the front doors. He also manages to fall out the window in the process. While driving his car, he manages to hit something creating a hole in the gas tank creating a trail of gasoline behind his car. He then manages to throw away a lit cigarette out he window. While working at his job in the egg factory he manages to anger his psychopathic ax wielding boss and uncovers a sinister plan hatched by the tobacco company having to do with eggs. While watching this film I was glad to see a comedian who was able to construct comedy out of timing and ordinary situations and didn't rely on fowl language and crass humor, although there is a sprinkling of it. He did get hit in the nuts at least once. After having read this review to my wife she comments , "You didn't even tell what country this takes place in. (Australia). That's more interesting then where somebody got hit in a certain place. Come on"'Mr. Accident is a homage to the style of comedy that creative, athletic, and highly talented filmmakers once made. Recommended to those who appreciate good slapstick. Yahoo can now rank up their as a master of disaster along with Laurel & Hardy, Harold Lloyd, Mr. Magoo, Jerry Lewis, and Mr. Bean.

Comedy, especially physical comedy, is totally subjective. It is fascinating that a movie can be really loved and really hated at the same time. I walked out of "There's Something About Mary" and "Ghostbusters," two very unfunny films, in my opinion. For some reason, slapstick is a form of comedy that people think is old. Jerry Lewis can be excessive, but he is still a tremendously talented man whose best films are classics. The Mack Sennetts, Buster Keatons and Harold Lloyds of the world needed to hone their craft, learn about the camera, lighting, design, and all the niceties that make a film a professional product, especially timing. Somewhere along the line, physical comedians like Lewis, Tati and Bengnini found that their art was appreciated more in Europe than in the United States.I first saw Yahoo Serious when he made "Young Einstein" and there was a massive promotional campaign for him and for his movie on MTV. "Young Einstein" was a real misfire for me and many others, and soon he disappeared as a presence in the U.S.One day I wondered what became of him, and after doing a bit of searching, I found this movie. This man is a genuine talent, obviously an admirer of the great silent physical comics, yet has a style all his own. His world is a unique surreal existence with bright colors and bizarre surroundings. This is a film that was meant to be seen many times; there are so many gags and set pieces in this film that are still funny the second and third time, and he obviously subscribes to the comedy practice of throwing so much at you, if something doesn't work, the next gag will. I can imagine audiences laughing till it hurt, because physical comedy needs an audience desperately to really work. Watching the Marx Brothers on television is an entirely different experience than watching them in a theater; too much dead air, and with hundreds of people, laughter is contagious. How many of us laugh because out neighbor is laughing? Some gags in this film are beautifully constructed, to the point where I marveled at what he was doing. The opening is near perfect, the garbage on the stairway is a gem that should be seen in some special on classic comedy, it is that good (the tangent with the baby is the work of a master; it is really hard to pull something like that off with an infant). The restaurant scene has wonderful little moments that are just hysterical, from the dialogue between these two cute but incredibly strange people and the reactions from other patrons. The ending with the hubcap (I loved how he turned this into a dog food dish) is utterly unexpected and really does cap this movie off very well. While the last twenty minutes didn't work as well as the rest of the movie, the rest of it was worth the journey (I found the ending of "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" very protracted and really ruined the movie for me).For someone to have accomplished such a polished work with so few films behind him really shows how gifted he is. I barely remember this film being released, and I have a feeling that if more people saw it, it would be far more appreciated.

Why does everyone have to take everything so, so, so, serious. ;) This was just for fun. I watched this move and my stomach hurt I was laughing so hard. I guess some people just don't know how to have fun. Hopefully, I'll never be in that crowd of people...ROCK ON YAHOO!!!And make more movies...And release some DVD's...

It pains me to say this about an Australian film but Mr. Accident ranks with the worst of the worst films I have ever seen. What's even more tragic is that it doesn't fit into the 'it's so bad it's good' category. What annoys me the most about this film is the fairly large amount of money that has been frittered away on a pointless, unfunny, underdeveloped, inept screenplay. Dumb performances (What are Garry McDonald and Elisabeth Gore aka Elle McFeast doing in this trash?), inadequate direction, no plot and a general sense of meanness totally take away from the interesting production design and leave you with a truly horrible taste in your mouth. Comedy! Ha! Do yourself a favour and stay away!
